Alright, I wasn't the one who decided to put a powerdyne supercharger on my car. I bought the car with one already installed, and well, at the time I bought the car I really didn't know a lot about the company. Come to find out, Powerdyne sucks. Alright, so I learned a lesson do research on all engine components. So last night I was driving home and I heard a belt go. Thought maybe it was just a bad belt, I mean belts do go bad. Put on a new belt, and it started squeaking bad, very very bad, and ended up getting thrown off. I'm thinking the SC froze up, and now I'm thinking, now what? Anyways, is there a way to do something about this without costing too much. Or am I just stuck buying a new supercharger? Or could there be a different problem. Thanks to all, bye.

figure out if it's froze up first or find out what the cause is. There are several companies that rebuild powerdynes with stronger parts just research a little. If that doesn't work I guess you'll have to buy a new supercharger.
No, it's the outer belt. Starts on the supercharger wraps under the tensioner, over the ribbed idler, and then around the crank pulley. From there it heads over a second idler and back to the supercharger. The instructions for the supercharger say to turn the belt with two fingers and it shouldn't quite reach 90 degrees. We pushed down on the tensioner with a crow bar until we got the belt to this tightness. Turned the car on and there was this squeal. My dad said there was smoke coming from the supercharger, no exactly sure where however. The supercharger pulley doesn't move if you try to turn it by hand. Is it supposed to be able to. Could it be simply the pulley is stuck.
There are also course hair from the previous belt left on the ribbed idler. Obviously it's from the belt grounding up against it, and I thought maybe the ribbed idler was stuck, but it moves freely.
The unit doesn't smoke when there isn't a belt hooked up to it, and the car runs perfectly fine without the belt, as it's a separate pulley system. The boost gauge still rises when I hit the accelerator, but obviously doesn't go over 0psi. Otherwise, the boost gauge stays around 20VAC and kinda bounces around there. To be quite honest, I'm fairly new to superchargers, as you've probably realized, and besides knowing they add significant power their mechanical workings and setup are still new to me. So when I bought the car, and I see superchargers, my eyes widen. The guy put a lot of money into the car with very nice parts, and I could only assume that he would do the same for the supercharger. Since the unit was already installed, and was running perfectly fine, and had been in the car for a couple years already, I figured it was a decent unit at least. The car had always been run on premium since the install the guy said, and I did the same except for once a couple weeks ago where I mistakenly put in unleaded. I went through that tank quickly and refilled with premium as was required. I don't think that would have anything to do with it, as it was just one single time, and not enough to do damage, and I think I would have had damage occur then.
I did do some research on rebuild kits, found a few on Ebay, but I'm not sure what's involved in these kits. Do I send the unit in, do they send parts to me...etc...etc...I would have the vehicle looked at by a Ford Dealership, but I figure they'll make me spend money when it's possible I may find an answer on here. Plus, they'll probably look at the car, tell me we don't work with SC and then turn around and send me a bill. I'm sure they'd have better understanding than me and my father, but I still wonder if it would be a waste. I don't exactly have 2000 dollars sitting around to put on a new one, and I'm not sure what would be involved in swapping out a Powerdyne SC for a Vortech or some other brand. I know that many others require you to tap the oil pan don't they, and while that's a small process, I'm wondering what else may have been changed to fit the Powerdyne and could ruin any success in installing any other brand. Well thank you for the help...Landon

well.... a new blower should cost you under 2 grand because all your buying is the headunit... but you could probably get away with getting a rebuild kit and be as good as new...

take the blower apart and look inside, the old powerdynes were belt driven and the internal belts would brake...thats why i asked what belt you changed. Its possible your belt in your blower broke and clogged it up inside and that is what broke your drive belt. I would check the blower first.
Okay, thanks alot. After doing some research shortly after buying the car I came across the terrible reviews the company has. I did visit the company site before purchase to learn about it, but obviously, the company would have quite the bias now wouldn't they? So, anyways, the local shop in town said they would look at it free of charge, now that is very nice of them. Anyways, I haven't opened up the head unit yet, because I figured I'd do research before I screw it up worse. Plus if this guy looks at it he can maybe help quite a bit. Don't know his expertise on superchargers, but it's gotta be decent as he is a mechanic. Umm, I can't give an exact date on the supercharger right now. The Mustang is a 96GT, and it wasn't put on for a couple years. My best guess would be that it was installed maybe 98, but the paper work on all engine mods and body mods are in a folder in the car. I can't remember exactly if there are receipts for the SC, as not EVERYTHING is in there, but it's a pretty nice sized folder filled with many receipts. I looked through the folder, but I don't remember exactly what was in there.
Anyways, lets' just consider that the unit didn't sieze up or blow or anything like that, I'm still really gonna look into that rebuild kit. From what I see online, Powerdyne sucks from the factory, but if you get a rebuild kit they are actually VERY nice. Either way, if it makes the unit more reliable and could save me many more thousands of dollars it will be a sure buy. If I do end up having to replace the SC, I'll probably just hurry up and pay off the car ASAP, and then start saving up for a high quality one. Just remember, I used to drive an autoV6 stang, so I when I saw a GT, 5 speed, SUPERCHARGED,I just kind of bought the car before I had a chance to pick my jaw off the floor. The Powerdyne definetlyadded quite a lot of power and I had the car looked over, everything was in working order.Butused cars and even new cars don't just STAY in working order when you ahve them checked out. But thanks a lot for the assistance, very grateful to all you fellow enthusiasts.
