I do have the budget for a Mach 1 or Cobra, but I'd prefer to keep it down to the $10k range, preferably even less so I can modify and have more money for a house. 260hp should be enough for me to start with, my Probe only has 150whp as it sits so the Mustang should have almost 80 more to the wheels. I know dealerships will talk the price down since I'm paying cash, just not sure if a $7000 offer for the black 01 thats asking $9000 is reasonable. So what should I look for to judge its condition? To make sure it hasn't been beat on and such.
It's good to have your proirities in order. I just bought my house this week & was very glad to get an awesome deal on it (since the market has thawed) and was able to get a lot more house since I had more $$ in the bank.

The best thing to do is to start test driving as many mustangs as possible to get a feel for a car that is tight vs a car that has been beaten on. Good luck.

if you are worried about the money thing make sure you check out the insurance on any of them you buy. I would stick with a 2000-2001 but try to find one with 60-70k miles. dont worry about what we all say just make sure you buy one you want and DONT settle. If you want a color then go find one.

for the money the mach has more power if u can spare the extra couple thousand now it will be worth it. I regret gettin my 2 valve gt everyday. just a thought wish i had done more research.
+2 Do not get a 2v unless you just cant afford to get something else!! The money you will put into a 2v compared to everything else isnt worth it. I knew nothing at all about mustangs when i got mine, paid 14k almost 2yrs ago andpast on the 01 COBRA setting beside it cause it was 18k and i thought that was too much for a stang!! So do some research and find out as much as poss about these cars before you make a purchase..

That's what makes me uneasy about the modded on, plus it has a exhaust clip with a burnout. And it would be 20 hours each way to pick that one up. I'm nowhere near close enough to buying any to have run a Carfax.
umm dude?? the dealership is REQUIRED to provide you a FREE carfax request UPON REQUEST. READ THIS, THEY WONT GIVE YOU ONE UNLESS YOU ASK, AND WHEN YOU ASK IT IS FREE. and the money you will spend modding a gt, that you saved from buying a mach 1, wont even put you in the same power area as a mach 1 or cobra, those 2 stock are above a full bolt on GT.
