Default Cost to Forge

Anyone know the aproximate cost to get your bottom end forged? Also, if the cost is high enough to justify just buying a Mach1 or 03-04 Cobra engine? The Cobra engines are good to over 700 hp. I just want to know, especially since the 4V heads flow so much better than 2V.

I built my short block for $2200. Its bored .020 over, forged crank, rods and pistons along with ARP mainstuds and cobra oil pump.

When forging your inners do you gain power or do you just strengthen it for adding parts to make it more powerful?

Obviously going with a 4V is going to offer WAY more HP potential than the 2V.

However, MMR, Modular Mustang Racing, http://www.modularmustangracing.com/ offers a complete built short block for the 2V heads good for 600 rwhp for $2299.

That's good enough for pretty much, (yes there areare exceptions), any 2V running on pump gas.

Forged internals do not make any additional power by themselves. They do provide addition strength that's required when adding FI or N2O

Just FYI the mach 1 motors are not forged.

IMO unless you want to exceed around 550-600 WHP then there isn't any reason to go with the extra expense of going to a 4v setup. A properly equipped 2v (ported heads/cams, stock intake) with FI will make 550+ with the fuel to support it, on pumpgas, all day long.

For what it would cost to convert to a 4v you can slap on a s/c on the 2v and blow away the 4v(NA).

When you swap to the 4v you have to change the exhaust also. I'd stick with the 2v. It cost me 1700 to build mine but I kept the stock crank.

How much can the stock crank handle?
