Do your own maintence?

Do your own maintence?
Does anyone here still do there own regular maintence, IE Oil Changes, Tire Rotations (If even appliciable) etc........ I've noticed that I'm spending about $25.00 dollars every time I Change Oil n' Filter myself versus the $12.00 dollars my friends spend at Wal Mart n' other lube spots, where they also top off all fluids and such...

Yeah, they spend $12 and get crappy recycled oil. I'm assuming it costs you more because you use full synthetic, and a respectable filter right?
With all of the horror stories from those "Quickie" places, I'd rather spend a few extra dollars and get top quality stuff, and do it myself to ensure I took the utmost care when performing said tasks. Noone will treat your car like you.
My buddy took his Civic to a "Quickie" shop for an oil change. A little while after he left the shophis engine blew. They found out that the shop never secured the plug all the way, so it vibrated out of place and fell off. It then drained all of the oil and his engine ran without oil till it seized. He ended up getting his motor replaced with a junkyard motor (at the expense of the shop) but it ended up being a nightmare for him, because obviously you have no background on a junkyard motor.
That story, as well as the multitude of other CNN type stories where shops pretend to do work but don't have been enough for me to do any job on my car I can tackle!

RE: Do your own maintence?
i do my own maintenance and you know what...it does cost me a bit more than taking it to walmart but you know what? i KNOW the work gets done when i do it, and i know what is put in my car, etc... ever see the video someone posted here about jiffy lube not changing oil, tranny fluid, fuel filters, etc...?
they were just letting hte car sit on a lift for a while then pulling it down and saying the work was done.

I have a lift and all the tools i could possibly need, it would be kind of a waste to not do the stuff myself, and like others have said you know the work is being is actually being done with care when you do it yourself.
