Default Cold air Intake

I have a 2000 Mustang GT convertible and I was wondering about a bbk fenderwell cold air intake. If I buy the kit will I need to buy a new mass air meter or can I use the stock one? If I use the stock one will the car run bad or something? The car is completely stock. All it has is an Slp loudmouth 2 catback. I would really appreciate if someone could answer these questions for me.

to answer your question, use the stock MAF, but IMO you'll be wasting your money unless you are going for looks. The air isn't going to magically turn cold when it enters that metal tubing. Be happy if you get 2hp out of it. Not like your looking for my opinion on this but I would take that money and buy a set of tinted headlights to replace your crusty looking lights. Trust me you'll thank me and your car will look so sweet with it!!

BTW welcome to the board

dude i bought the bbk and i sold it a month later. the engine made the inlet tube so hot it burned me so i knew it was affecting the temp of the air entering the engine. I went with the jlt cold air intake kit, looks decent and stays nice and cool, stock mass air works fine, just have to get rid of the screen between stock filter and mass air which some people swear affects how the car runs and idols but i didnt notice any difference. The OEM intake is a CAI, and not a bad one at that--it just doesn't look particularly flashy. The JLT and other tuned intakes can make a difference, however to be honest if you are not planning on getting a tune or tuner and moving to 93 octane fuel there's not really much to be gained from any intake mod except headsand cams...The OEM H-pipe is costing you some performance that you can recover without a tune, get an aftermarket cattedH or Xpipe. Ano/r pipe will cheaper, and will also be louder and make you think you've got gobs of added power, truth is however that there is not much performance difference between the hi-flow cats used on aftermarket mid-pipes and not having the converters at all. I have never seen an unbiased back-to-back dyno comparison of cats versus no-cats on Mustangs, however did dob-t-b swap out a cheap Advance Auto cat and a "test pipe" on my supercharged '92 Miata; there was no, I repeat NO, observable difference in performance, right up to 7500 rpm.

JLT Ram air intake ftw. the cold air intake sucks up water. trust me...it has happened to me before. so just get the ram air intake. it comes with a heat shield so you should be reasonably fine. and the elbows in the part that goes down into the inner fender restrict performance so you are overall better off with the rai.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think I will be buying one after all. That was an old picture that I uploaded by mistake. I actually did buy some cobra r headlights already. It looks way better. That was pretty harsh of you to say that though.

that was harsh? Obviously you agreed w/ me because you had already replaced them. I guess I don't sugar coat things like some people but atleast I'm not going to tell you to waste you money on a CAI when I feel like it can be spent better elsewhere.
