Tips for first time at the track
Going to be running my mustang at Raceway next week. I am very confident in my driving capabilities but some tips are always appreciated. My buddy has a 98 cobra, stock aside from exhaust and I am hoping to suprise him a little. I have drag radials on the back 10.5 wide tires. Should I get the tires really warmed up or go around the water box? What launch rpm's are typically favorable? The time doesn't start until I cross the beam so I am not worrying about the start in terms of quarter mile time but i need to tree him good in order to not get killed. This is our first time running our cars together what do you think the 98 cobra's margin of victory will be on my 98 gt. Only power adder I have is Bassani catted x pipe and slp's(not really a power adder) Any other tips from you veteran straight line guys would be appreciated. I did work at raceway for 5 years but never had a chance to run a car until i got this one. I know how it's done but I hear it's a whole different ball game when your in the seat. Thanks!

Yeah i am hoping to be there for Friday night, fords vs the world, and Saturdays event. Whether or not i run my car depends on my clutch and the way it's acting. Spec clutch with 1200 miles on it and still chattering from a stop. It is smoothing out and I SOMETIMES can take off without any hint of chatter but it's getting better. driving an all black 98gt with black chrome bullits, the 98 cobra is all black with black chrome fr500's. Should be fun.

It's a summitomo tire as well, so I guess it is not a true drag radial tire like a nitto. I didn't know if i needed to heat them up too much especially with all the glue on the track. It's not like I got 4.10's. Also, how will i fetch against the 98 cobra and what do you think my times might be? I am thinking 14.3-14.6??

If you have drag radials lower your rear tire pressure to like 12psi or so and do about a 7 to 10 second burnout. I dropped my 60' time down from 2.012 with rear tire pressure at 20psi to 1.828 with 12psi in the rears launching at 3200 rpm's on Hoosier d/r's. I also have 4.10's and a built rear with 31 spline diff and axle's. So becareful not to break anything.

I have sumitomos, not drag radials. I figured with the glue on the track and coming out of the hole with the rpm's up a little I'll be able to hook fine. I guess I won't know until I am there, but why is everyone hating on sumitomos? I thought it was a decent tire and I normally hook pretty good.
