Default Need some advice on CAI

I wanted 4.10 in place of the stock 2.73. I know it is a major difference but with summitomos and stock suspension traction will be an issue. And spending 500 on a gear swap to have traction problems in first and second and still with a pOS chattery spec clutch seems stupid. Not to mention a job that will force me to drive the highway everyday. I may stick to stock gears for now until i get a second car.

BUT i need to buy the car something. I was looking at the various CAI's and want to net a couple HP that i can feel. What is the best CAI to buy and do i need to tune. IF i did get one that requires a tune what has to be done. a simple handheld device or dyno tune? Not really informed since it is a 98 gt and doesn't make that much hp to bring into the dyno scene.

CAI's do not need a tune. You could buy one from BBK, MAC or JLT, but then you'd be forking up quite a bit of $$. My advice would be to buy an Ebay CAI. They're normally under $50. I ran one on my car for 2 years and never had a problem w/it.

Get gears.. why spend 200 bucks on something that doesnt do a damn thing, when u can spend 500 and have WAY more fun.

I have 4.10s and i dont have traction issues. i used to before..but i bought the driver mods.

Skip the 4:10's and get some 3:73's or even 3:55's if you're worried. Anything is better than the 2:73's. $450(gears) + $50(CAI)= funner car!

LOL 355 dont suggest 3.55...

unless you road race or have a turbo car that you do highway runs with 3.55s are just gonna **** you off.

4.10s or bust.. learn how to drive your car, and next time you buy tires dont cheap out on suckimotos

**** it. your right. i got a guy who offered to do the gears for me on the side. 150 for just gears or 200 for gears and rebuild kit. from what i hear he works on mustangs for a living and can do it in like an hour. he said to only buy FRPP 4.10 gears. I have 90,000 on my car do i need a rebuild kit? what weight gear oil should i use?
I'll buy them tomorrow so i don't keep flip flopping my mind. I really have the worst habit with that.

It will take a couple of hours unless he by luck gets it setup on the first try.

Yeah only buy FRPP gear sets and id run 80/90 full synthetic.

With a slipping clutch and 4.10's youre going to be replacing the clutch quickly.

I have a 96 GT with 3.73's FRPP but ive not put them in yet (NO TIME) and mines an auto if you want the best of both worlds go with a 3.73.Being the fact that you have a 5 speed and a different O/D ratio id go 4.10's and get a beater with a heater.

it's chattering only in first and reverse, and getting better (1400miles on it). Spec clutch is not the greastest. No slipping though. if i got 4.10's or 3.73's how much will the speedo be off. I hear the only thing to do is get a different speedo gear and where is that located on the trans?

Aftermarket CAIs are a complete waste of money, unless you just want something that "looks" trick. The OEM intake is a CAI and a pretty good one at that.

If you want to feel like you've done something slap a K&N filter into the stock airbox and cutback the snorkle a bit...
