Default Painting tail-pipes satin black (finished pics added)

My 2003 gt has a mac catback with these nice 1 piece chrome tail pipes that go all the way back to the axles, but the left one has bad rust right where the pipes come out from under the bumper. im getting black bullitts and im gunna also get the black letter inserts. i have really black tints also, so to follow this theme i wanna paint my tail pipes flat black.

does anyone have any info on prepping and painting chrome? school me. all i know is that i'd have to rough it up best as possible, prime it and then paint it with some semigloss duplicolor and maybe put a very light spritz of clearcoat over the whole piece to make it look kinda like the mach 1 hood scoop, (the old school bumpy flat black)

Your best bet is to have them coated with a thermal type powder caoting, you cant paint them with normal car/spray paint, or use a clear on them... it will just burn right off!! You eaither need to have them coated or use a high temp engine paint.

i've felt my tail pipes after a long ride and they honestly dont feel much hotter than say the water i might shower in, maybe like 100 degrees. if that is a legit issue, can i get high heat flat black paint?

With a good cleaning and scuff down for paint adheasion you could probably get a way with some good high temp header paints, your tips won't ever get as hot as the headers the paint is designed for.

Do it! take some pics. I would like to see out od curiosity.

My hood, side scoops, and spoiler are matte black and i love it, dont be afraid to be different. If it wasnt for people trying new things some of the best styles might never have come about.

Screw the tools who tell ya otherwise.

yeah im deff gunna do it. im gunna do it in satin black so it will have a slight refined look to it. flat black looks like theyre just unpainted pipes but i think waxed up satin will look sharp. it is a gamble because they could look beat city once i do it, but theyre no good as they are now anyway so its only up from here.

i think it'll look kinda rat rod/bat mobile but with the almost full "murdered out" (black tints, black rims, black letters, black pipes) look people will know theyre black for a reason. . . its one of those things i've honestly never seen on any car. .. ever lol. these guys at a high end body shop suggested i do it like 2 years ago but i was like ehhh at first. maybe i'll get around to it this holiday break since i've got nothing better to do anyway. i'll post pics asap if i do

this is the best looking paint of choice i could find due to the fact that its high temp paint but its not engine block enamel type

im also gunna look at pepboys to see what they got. what i really have to do is take a drive and feel my pipes after that cause i might be able to get away with normal duplicolor

Young buck, i like the way you think haha. let it be known black tailpipes started here lol jk
