$467 with parts and labor is not outrageous but not a bargain. 350 would be pretty cheap.

Yes thats parts and labor for $266.11
Yeah that's a good deal. Did you reuse the bearings? Most people replace the bearings and shims. Did you know these people? AKA, dads shop lol. j/k

I did my forged axle 31 spline set up on an ultra cheap budget and replaced all bearings and shims.

$35 Used explorer 31 spline diff. ebay
$45 rebuild kit for diff and friction modifier (I rebuilt the diff myself with 1 extra clutch per side).
$35 used 3.73's from a ranger ebay
$100 Rebuild kit from brenspeed, all bearings, shims, ring bolts marking fluid, diff gasket etc. (minus axle bearings cheaper that way and I knew the axles came with them)
$205 USA ALLOY 31 spline axles with axle bearing and wheel studs
$20 gear oil (no friction modifier needed because diff rebuild kit comes with it, a Penny saved is a penny earned)
$250 labor for complete rebuild, welded axle tubes, welded torque boxes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$690

I use to think I did a great job until I seen your deal.

So 467$ parts and installed is a deal dude. I usually charge 150$ to install around here.. And thats if YOU bring all the parts..
You charge $150? VERY reasonable. Wanna do my Mach's 4.10s? Have FRPP gears, install kit, lube, and friction modifier all ready to go. I'm in MD, will travel.

Cheapest labor I've found to do my gears is $300. Gears were $150, install kit and axle bearings totaled $100, fluid another $20..so we're at about $570. I've had a number of people quote me anywhere from $375-$500 for LABOR alone.

i went to a differential specialst shop called gearworks to rebuild my diff and put a new clutch pack in. only charging me 175 labor. very reasonable pricing . im sure labor for gear install would be less than 250

Finally the last shop wanted $275 plus tax. The guy said he would need the gears plus the install kit. Idk what to do. so all together with the last shop i would be pushing 600 bucks for gears and install. Anyone in upstate NY know any good places? Or feel free to comment on how much crack the dealerships are smoking. thanks!
it would be more of a fair comparison if you compared the number of hours they want to do the job that would be a better way to compare, all shops charge a different hourly rate, but the actual time to do the job should be fairly consistent to do a gear set. i can tell you up at my shop in Canada you would pay 5.0 hours labour to install crown and pinion and new bearing including measuring pinion depth and proper backlash set up, my door rate is 115.00 per hour so that works out to 575.00 plus parts, i know there are people out there doing the jobs for less, ask yourself this , will they be around when something goes wrong with it or you have a problem?? anyone can just slap a gear set in thats not where the skill comes in.......but when it time to set it up so that it lives for many hard miles to come thats what you pay for
