It's not just the engine you'd be upgrading for. The overall fact is that the S197 drivetrain responds way better to simple bolt ons and tuning than the 2V engines in the New Edge.
New Edge CAI gains - 7hp
S197 CAI Gains without tune - 7-10 hp
S197 CAI + Tune gains = up to 20 hp and 10tq

^ yup...ford dominates...the stang has like a hundred something less horse and its like a tenth of a second slower 0-60 over the camaro and challenger...thats sad on chevy and dodges part
Who buys 17" Saleens? It's like having a mentally challenged girlfriend. Everyone's proud of you for having a GF and that you're not gay but they still feel bad for you.

I've always heard the same thing, but from what i've actually seen in person this not true at all!
n/a i have 269 rwhp/305 rwtq, with full bolt ons. My friends 06 gt has the same bolt ons (stock driveshaft though) and on the same dyno, and on the same day, he put down 305 rwhp/320 rwtq. I've seen a few others as well on that same dyno...ranging 300-310 hp.
Even though there is a 40 hp (manufacturers claim) difference between the 2 & 3 valve, from what i've seen the 99-04 2 valve responds just as well to bolt ons.

I was thinking of buying a newer (2005-2009) GT. I was wondering what the difference, if any, were there in the two engines? Is the engine they put in the 1999-2004 GTs the same as the 2005-2009 GTs? Thanks guys.

Everyone I know with full boltons on there s197 is laying down a legit 320 to the wheels with a tune.. do that in a 2v.
The 3v is a way better platform. Ford did there homework on the 3v.

Well then my car must be a freak, because the 3 valves i'm comparing to were on the same dyno with very similar mods! The best i've ever seen on that dyno (for a 3 valve with full bolt ons) was 312 rwhp.
From what i've seen a stock 2 valve puts down around 230 rwhp, and a stock 3 valve around 270 rwhp. So with that being said my 269 rwhp would be equal to a S197 that puts down 309 rwhp...right? That would put either car at roughly 40 hp over stock.
I'm sure some have put down 320 rwhp, but even if the dyno that i go to is wrong, it still shows me that bolt on for bolt on, the 3 valve is not any stronger.

Well I still wouldn't give up your car for the new one just because of it's reaction to bolt-on's.... that's dumb. Follow the 'supercharger for $1500 thread' and you'll smoke a S197 for a lot less.
If you want switch cars... then switch cars, but the logic of doing so because of it's responsiveness to bolt-on's.... weak sauce.
