I need a new trans T45. my question is can i use 1996-04 95-04 or only 99-2000 or 99-2004 lol??? becuse the shop i went to wants 2500 for a rebuilt one and 400 to instail. i wounder if i would be able to go to junk yard and get one out of a 96 GT. do 96-98 gt and cobra have same manual trans? also reason im geting a new trans is becuse when i go to 4th it pops out. not every time but most the time i think its a shift fork or syncro. donesn't gride just pops out. So for now im going 1,2,3 high rmps 5th is this ok for the trans for now? sorry for all the questions any help is great!

you'll be fine with driving like that. Your gas mileage will suffer greatly from it but if thats what it takes then go for it. But 2500 for a rebuilt tranny is outrageous. You can get a new promotion t45 good for 750+hp for 1500 and a tranny swap is not hard at all. So the labor is outrageous too. So I would look elsewhere other than that shop...

The mid 01-04 transmissions need an 11" clutch versus the pre-01's need a 10.5" clutch. But the tranny out of a 96-98 car will work cus its the same tranny.

Check this link out. T-45s are Borg Warners, but the 96-98 Cobra T-45 has an 8 tooth speedo gear and the 96-98 GT has a 7 tooth gear. Plus the tranny mount point is different. Hope this helps you out.
well it all depends on what gear ratio the 96-98 rears had. Some had 2.73's and some had 3.27's. So thats probably the reason for the different toothed speedo gears.
