hey guys, Im getting ready to go through to process of supercharging my 01 GT Auto, I want to know what I need to do before I get the Blower to make my engine nice and sturdy to handle the boost! I plan on running a moderate 7-8 Pounds of boost. And looking at a Centrifugal Setup. This car has a Stock Auto What would my Tranny need to handle the extra power will probably do 3:73 gears since this is a daily driver.

what are your thoughts for putting a supercharger on an engine with 100k miles???
will it be ok or should i wait for a rebuild??

You will need bigger injectors (recommend 42 lbs), 90 lightning MAF sensor, handheld tuner (recommend sniper), and a custom dyno tune. Your tranny will be fine with your new found power level. In terms of gears, 4.10s would be perfect for a centri blower setup and a daily driver that is what I had for my DD before my latest build. 3.73s would be fine as well but 4.10s just complement centri blowers nicely.
I you want I have 36 lb injectors for sale that I want to unload. Goodluck with your shopping.
with your current set up and mods with 7-8 lbs on a centri its gonna feel pretty damn slow (for a s/c car anyway)
On my old setup (currently different) I had 3.73's, 3.6 pulley (8-9 lbs of boost), full bolt ons (minus longtubes), and my car made 387 rwhp. I had a hard time walking ls1's with very minor mods.
I have a 5speed by the way.
The reason is that centri's make their horsepower at peak RPM. The actual useable HP my car was making throughout the powerband was anywhere from about 330-350 rwhp
If i had an auto id go with a twinscrew or turbo, personally.
Not to discourage you from a Centri on your auto AT ALL, hell im the advocate for Centri's, i LOVE THEM and will always choose them over roots/twin screw blowers.
BUT in order for you to fully enjoy your new s/c and the thousands you will be spending...do it right the first time.
1: 3.73 gears for you might be OK... but you should really go for the 4.10's.
2: Since your an auto, dont be affraid of throwing on a 3.33 pulley or even a 3.25 pulley, just dont rev past 6k rpm. That will ensure boost comes on as quickly as possible and coupled with 4.10's it would make up the loss of tq in the lower end that a manual would have. SInce we are talking about the tranny, you need to firm up the shifts in your tranny. Either with a tuner or a shift kit... a higher stall tq. coverter would be a good addition but its not necessary just yet. Thats pretty much all you need and the tranny will handle upto 500 rwhp easily.
3: DEFFINETLY get a powerpipe
4: wheres your throttle body? get a 75mm asap. Where your midpipe? get one ASAP as well- all of these before you tune it.
5: Fuel- 42 lb (or even 39lbers that come stock on 03 cobras) plus a svt focus pump will give you plently of fuel for a stock motor.
6: if youve kept your car maintained and its running well you shouldnt have any issues supercharging at 100k miles. i threw on my vortech at 73k miles and the previous owner admittedtly beat up on it once in a while. She still runs perfect near 90k miles right now.
7: youll need stickier tires- nitto DR's are fun and can be daily driven (also in rain but gotta be careful)
8: INTERCOOL IT IMMEDIATELY!!! buy the cx-racing kit from ebay if your short on cash, but dont even bother installing your s/c with a smaller pulley if your not gonna i/c it before tuning....that would ensure high IAT's which would = detonation which = BOOM on your stock motor.
So trust me on this, that above is the formula to make your 2v run damn strong and surprise alot of people...just as i have:
hey guys thanks to all of you who replied, Avex great info Im glad you posted to me, One thing I want to ask you is if I was to go with a roots type blower Such as Kenne Bell do you think I should forge my internals and Fisher nailed my thoughts exactly I want to kno if this motor will hold up or should I do a rebuild? If I do a rebuild are there any kits on the market I can buy that would be all the forged internals together that I would need for my build? If so can you guys give me some info on some good ones? And Mustang GT3 Im having a hard time about which one to supercharge but Im thinking I want my old one to have some fun to and maybe S/C the 10 Later maybe next year! It would be fun to have two boosted Stangs
