Default Is It OK to Drive from Florida to California?

i was thinking about sometime down the road, i wanted to drive my 96 mustang from florida to california. the problem is, is that my car has 145,000 miles on it. i really don't know anything about cars but that's a lot of miles and i don't want it to break down on the way and get stuck in another state or so. if anyone can give me some advice on how i can possibly make it without any trouble like change the oil, new tires, check the engine or something. it would be great, thanks! i don't like to fly. besides, i love driving my baby!

Honestly, there is no guarantee that your car wont break down, but if it has been maintained, then it should be just fine. I would trust mine to go anywhere and my odometer stopped working at 156,xxx miles....

Do a full tune up on your car. Spark plugs, oil and oil filter change, tranny fluid change (and filter if auto), fuel filter change, check your tires i.e alignment, rotate and balance, check your serpentine belt, air filter (replace if over 12,000 miles or clean if washable), check your spare tire (make sure you have the lug wrench, jack and pressure is good in the tire itself), coolant flush. Do all of that and it will help you breathe easier and your car will love you, but still can't prevent something from going wrong.

If you plan on doing that go I-10 the whole way I-8 has some B!tc# a$$ hills that might cause you some problems. I drove my 87 5.0 from NY to Phoenix had no problems besides a tire blowout, and that was because I hit a re-tread, but couldn't swerve to miss. I had a 170K on the car when I made that trip.

If the car runs and drives fine and hasnt given any signs of trouble id say you should be ok for the drive just do a basic tune up, the oil, tranny fluid and plugs.

my car had about 85k on it. i drove it from Wichita falls texas to connecticut in two days (1500 miles). a week and a half later i drove from connecticut to las vegas (2600 miles, car was packed full of all my ****) in about 4 days. car had no problems. i would suggest checking fluids, brakes, and changing oil before you start the trip. thats what i did.

car also has 3.73 gears =D

I would agree to the above posts, the mileage is still low IMO, a well maintained car should get you to at least 250,000. Just check fluids, tires, and see if you are due for anything to be replaced: plugs, wires, air filter, that sort of thing.

south carolina to maine is the farthest I've been, that was with 136k on the clock. Just do a complete tune up, take some extra oil, make sure you have everything if you blow a tire. Should honestly be no problem.
