Default GT mods needed..sissy motor

Well I have figured out over the years that the "stock" GT engines are absolutely pathetic. I need something to pick up some power above 5k rpm. This car falls off quickly at about 5400-5500. What is everyone doing to help with this? The rest of the RPM range is acceptable but not impressive. The car ran a best of 9.29 @ 78 mph in the 1/8 mile with street tires.

Ideas for mods to get this pony moving would be great!

its a small bore, small cube 2v SOHC motor.

Well, heads and cams will really help on the high end, but nitrous or a supercharger will be your best bet.

I was just wondering if there was actually something small restricting this motor at high rpms. Kinda seems like the timing and fuel maps are off. I have never seen an engine drop off so hard at that rpm.

Yeah...the heads, cams, intake, exhaust, gearing, etc...lol. Seriously, from what i hear the 96-98 gt's are notoriously weak up high.

Newer 4.6L 3V engine? I've driven both and the torque from the 2005+ 4.6L engines is definitely stronger.

My advice- higher gears. Swap out your 3.27 or 3.55 gears for 3.73 or 4.10. You will notice a difference.

^+1, I don't see a tune/tuner mentioned in your mods, if you are still running the OEM tune there's a lot of room for improvement...

Whoops, missed it I see tune in there now...
