if you pay 7k for a 97 gt yer an idiot (jus sayin)

take a pic of the motor and post it up and we'll tell u if its a cobra or not the 4v looks alot different than the 2v. You might be able to tell as the intake manifold should have a plaque on it.

Cobra -Teksid block (rated @ over 1k hp capable)
GT-Iron block (rated @ 600 i do belive)

Cobra 4valve per cylinder Swirl Port "B" heads, i forget the CFM but flow way better than
GT- 2valve per cylinder 1 cam per head (cobra has 2 cams in each head)

Cobra better flowing intake (obviously to flow well with the heads)
Bigger brakes and better calipers.(cobra)

Cobra-Forged Crank
Gt-Cast Crankshaft

Cobra 305bhp
Gt- 220? 225bhp

Cobra- Different Fron't bumper+ hood than the GTs rear bumper says cobra as does steering wheel, SVT badge under CD player, whiteface gauge cluster

Cobra- Redlines at 6850 RPM
GT- Redlines at 5850 RPM

All around the cobra is a much better car, i'm sure i probably missed something, anymore questions just ask.

I didn't think the rear bumper had Cobra on it until 2001. I know the 1999 Cobra rear bumper said Mustang.

I believe the 97 Cobra does say Cobra on bumper.

heres a picture of a 97 (back view)
http://www.turbochargedpower.com/ima...a%20RR%202.jpg

You are correct though to a point ,99 say Mustang.
(Picture back view)
http://z.about.com/d/mustangs/1/0/K/...SVTCobra11.jpg

Then 03-04 say Cobra.( We all know that)Terminators are awesome

Dont know what Ford idea was back then with some years saying Cobra and some years dont.

My point is if its a True Cobra it should say Cobra what ever year it is.

Now I've been real curious about this but never find a straight answer.. so..

What are the differences in the GT's and Cobras!? I don't know what years are the same setups but the car in question is the 97
All help is appreciated, Bobby

Here what a 4.6 ltr DOHC motor looks like( whats in cobras)

Heres a 4.6 ltr SOHC motor( whats in GT)
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/revie...//5/5SOHCA.jpg

BTW these are example pictures not the true motors

Valve covers on DOHC motor are much wider.
Hope that helps you under stand a little better.

Get the Cobra, You'll love it over the GT ...And thats a decent price BTW

Also, just make sure that it is a cobra and just not a GT with cobra badges. Pics would be appreciated.

yeah don't be fooled by cobra wanna be's. many people replace stock parts for cobra parts.. but its still a gt. snake emblem, hood etc. the motor is the best way to tell, and my 96 says cobra on the bumper too. The heads a huge in the cobra and so is the intake, also having a cobra on top of it. has the strut tower over the motor. if its the real deal, it will be noticeably different.

good luck in finding out if its a cobra or not. I had a 97 gt that was very very very sluggish even with modifications.

Some other differences. . .
the gt may have a different set of gears ratio compared to the cobra. I know mine had 327s and some cobras will have like 353 or 355s. or even 308s it just depends what the original owner could have picked from the factory.

Nope, the auto wasn't an option on the 94-04 cobras. If you found one, it's been swapped.
