all back pressure does is move the curve, low pressure moves the torque curve to a higher rpm i believe. where as a restrictive exhaust has a lower rpm peaking torque curve.

not damage will result, besides the ear damage from open headers at WOT

The thing you need to worry about is exhaust velocity. Just so know, an o/r pipe with LM1's or straight pipes is going to sound like **** and be obnoxiously loud. The first time you drive it with that setup you'll regret it.

This must be right! When i threw on a o/r x pipe (vs my high flow catted h) the car didn't have the same midrange torque feel, but it pulled the same in the higher revs from my perception.

I had a thread a few months back about backpressure. There was a guy on there that was very helpful in explaining that backpressure is BS. haha!

There's really no such thing as "backpresure" in an exhaust system, it's just pressure as anything but open ports will have some restriction--this article explains it well...

[edit]

This is good reading too...

i get into soooooooo many arguements over this subject. it doesnt even make sense how u can burn anything up when u have fee flow. the only reason u would need any is if ur cam overlap is so wide that u spew out air /fuel. but thats just plain hear say crap
