Default Vortech+EGR delete ok?

ok so my friend (who is a mechanic) was helping me put on my mac lt's today in my garage, and while he was taking out the driver side header he accidently twist-snapped the egr tube in half.

now im faced with the following options:

buy a new egr tube: ~$50 retail

EGR block off plate: ~$10?

Q is: will deleting the EGR have any ill-effects on my set up? (full bolt ons+ vortech)

this car is not my DD, more like a weekend warrior and cruising car. Texas DOES require smog/emissions testing but my friend passes my car every year so thats a non- issue either.

im NOT looking for any HP gains but if i can save a few bucks by not buying the tube and get to clean up the engine bay a little at the same time id prefer to do that.

thanks

It shouldnt affect it at all. just turn the EGR function off via the tune. The EGR functions is only there to provide better emissions. All it does is recirculate the extra gassed back into the combustion cycle that were not burned in the initial burn. The gasses that are not oxygen negatively effect your emissions so the EGR systems where developed to help make sure they are effectively used.

ok thanks for the reassurance. during searching i found people saying NO DONT DO IT FORD PUT IF FOR REASON!!! and NO CAUSE YOUR OPERATING TEMPS ARE GONNA SKYROCKET!!! as well as DONT DO IT OR YOUR CAR WILL BLOW UP!! (jk)

just called my friend who does emission testing and he concurs, its strictly to reduce emissions.

last q: all i need to put on is the block-off plate on the t/b and cap off the tube on the header right? wat line can i rip out, thanks

You can pull the BAP sensor and the lines leading to it. Obviously the Main tube, Cut the plug off the harness to the bap and Modular Depot sells the EGR delete kit for 15$ /20$ shipped. (or you can make your own form a 5/8 brass cap from Home Depot/hardware store.)

The benefits of the EGR are minimal and you not ever see any positive or negative results from deleting or keeping it. (Except of course the engine bay is a lot cleaner w/o it.)

I put the delete on mine as soon as the s/c went on, it really cleans up the engine bay. I have running w/out it for almost a year and the car is my DD.

i would definately delete it. a local guy who has a 03 gt turbo had the DPFE melt at the track during a pass, which is part of the egr system. this caused caused his car to lean out and BOOM, the results were quarter sized holes in the side of the block.

now he is getting a built motor put in, but a 20buck part could have saved the car. he was pissed about that.
