Default Mother F*$(in interior rattles

well folks 115,000 miles of speeding, pot holes, donuts, hard launches, drifts and any and all other types of hard driving have taken its toll on my lil black beauty. Its got all sorts of interior trim creaks and rattles. To the point now where it got to be a pretty annoying nuisance for everyday driving. Nothing worse than loving the hell out of your car, getting in it and being bothered by 100 little ticks, creaks and squeaks.

So here's some of the tricks i've come up with for problems so far and would love some suggestions to fix some of the others... because surely I cant be the only one.

The back window area issues:
- Whenever theres a pretty drastic change in outside temperature (like fall days in new england... 75 at noon, 35 at midnight) it seems like the back window rattles and makes that terrible glass-scraping sound due to materials expanding/contracting with diff temps. A buddy of mine work at a window repair place so I had him reseal the back window for dirt cheap. Didnt hurt to reseal a 2003 thats seen every winter CT has had since I bought it, but that turned out to not be the problem. Theres a little metal 'clip' peice touching the window that basically hooks the window to the defroster. That little bastard made more noise than a mother effin cricket. A steady hand with a toothpick and a few dabs of superglue made a quick solution of it. I emphasize steady hand because my buddy had the same issue with his stang, got sloppy with it and now its an eye sore in his car. Do it carefully and it wont be noticeable...

-rear seats - going over any uneven road surface would make some serious clanking in my rear seats. The culprit? The metal clip and hook that the seats secure to from the trunk side of the seat. The easy fix? I had a roll of cloth backed black tape kickin around my garage. A few strips of that wrapped around the metal that the seats secure to deadens the metal-on-metal clunking/scraping sound...really anything that would keep metal from bumping metal would work...

-when i got my windows tinted about 3 years ago the guy who did it kinda snapped off the whole 'headrest' back section between the flat carpeted speaker area and the back seats. If you know what piece i'm talking about, its attached by a couple of screws through plastic tabs. Well, this a$$hole just snapped the tabs instead of unscrewing so now over a decent bump theat oblong piece that isnt anchored to anything anymore bumps and thumps around... Got no good idea for how to secure it short of a bracket of some sort from within the trunk which would require a bit of drilling... suggestions?

- The center console - I replaced my Mach audio system when it decided to eat a cd and not spit it back out... unfortunately after taking out the bezel, tearing out the deck and installing a new deck, the bezel rattled like hell on re-installation. Same with the shifter bezel but to a lesser degree. My fix? 3M makes a double sided tape with a 1/8 thick white foam between contact surfaces. I pulled both bezels off, lined the tape on the mating surfaces and jammed it back in place. It takes a while to finess back in there but the foam compacts enough for it to clip back in place. The tape sticks the bezel to the console and what contact points you dont have are deadened by the foam.

- The last annoying bastard rattle I havent figured out yet are the damn air vents in the center console. Haven't come up with a good solution for these as they are still functional moving parts. Hell I'd tape em to one place since I personally never use em as I'm a windows down kinda guy... but I inevitably pick up a girl for a date in the warm months who likes the A/C on because she doesnt want to ruin her hair/makeup. So for the ladies sake, i'd like to keep the vents moveable Just want to quiet down the rattles... Suggestions?

Those are my ailments and fixes as of now. I figure I cant be the only one thats had issues, so lets start a thread for quick fixes and see if we cant tighten up our interiors so we can enjoy our cars a little more....

Good writeup though.

My vents have the same annoying rattle. Buy some new foam padding that sticks onto the back of the vent bezel. I took mine off the other day when I installed my sirius radio and noticed there was no more padding left. Car is 11 years old so it will happen. Just haven't got around to buying some new padding yet.

I guess i should ask. Do you have any sort of subframe connectors. I just put some on and it really improved the whole rattle thing.

Im suprised no one has mentioned the hand brake vibration yet. I still havent had time to take it apart and try to silence it, but just turning the pushbutton a little bit helps some temporarily. Also, for your rear deck area, you can get replacement tabs from autozone or the dealer and fix it back to stock pretty easily. When all else fails, get some loudmouths... worked for me

lol, mustangs are not built like Honda's. I have not seen one yet that doesnt have some plastic piece loose or have something that makes a noise. The more stuff you take apart and try to put back the more issues arise. The cars are held together by cheap clips and trees and whatever else they could find laying around.

like everyone else said if your exhaust is loud enough you wont here anything else.

Mac Longtubes, Mac O/R Prochamber and Mac Catback with stage II blower cams thumpin out the back plus a KB 2.1 screaming up front under 12#s of boost. so yeah, my car makes plenty of great noises from the outside but I just want to tighten it up on the inside a little.

ya know... for those times that a state cop is two feet off your bumper waiting for you to edge 1mph over the limit... and you're trying to keep your foot off the gas to keep the car as quiet as possible

for those lovely quiet moments where interior rattles would annoy me...haha

Holy **** thats a badass setup

My car does the backseat click that you're talking about. I also have a random passenger door tick/click ocassionally. Don't keep anything in the passenger door. It stays 10/10 clean at all times inside.

I have a rattle somewhere near my center console that I can't figure out. Don't know where it is coming from at all. Seems to be near my auto shifter. Also when I am alone sometimes the passenger seat vibrates like it is possessed.
