Default 1996 4.6 sohc gt engine swap?

I have a 1996 Mustang gt 4.6 sohc motor that needs replacing. I have seen alot of late model 3v/4v 2005-2008 motors with low milage on the internet, so I was wondering if I could swap out the old 4.6 sohc for a newer 4.6 dohc motor and what parts would I need to do so (new wiring harness, computor etc). I am just trying to get the most bang for my buck.

Well I'm here to let you know that it's possible to swap out your 16v for a 32v. It'll drop right in to your t-45 and I think you might need the ecu and the harness's. You can find deals out there that sell everything too. I found some here in California but I couldn't afford it.
On ebay I also saw a crate 2004 gt engine ans trans for like 3k. Depends on how much you wanna spend is what everyone will tell you here.

Big tex
Can you let me know who you go with and how happy you are with it if you buy a reman in the near future? I am looking around for a good outfit to get another 2v. I've seen them for 2K - another 2500 you can add the heads and cam to smoke those NA 4v's. All without changing your wiring harness and ecu

I confidently think you'll be fine with a AOD trans BUT I'm no expert so wait until more guys reply. The pattern I believe is the same.

Holy crap.....

Just put in a 99-04 2v or 4v. Do NOT try and put in a 3v unless you do a lot more research. It requires a lot more than you think. you can use a 4v engine from 98-04, 03/04 being the more desirable.

Keep your engine harness and ECU and reuse your accessories. Do some "4v swap" searches on here.
