yeah, our cars have plenty of muscle to get the car sideways, it's just controlling them, the suspension sucks, check out Jazzers sticky on suspension for our cars... I've put on some adjustable shock/struts and some lowering stiffer springs and my car handles a lot better
I think every forum I'm on has a "-DriftKing-", lol. Any RWD car with a close weight ratio can drift. There aren't many people on this forum that drift with any regularity, I'd try a board that's focused on multiple platforms.
You can do it after/while raining(use your judgment dont go super fast) and you wont use up your tires hardly at all. you can "drift" at like 20-30mph in a controlled mannor. Its not intirly up to speed but its a good way to get a feel for the balance of the car. there is a vacant neighborhood(not built yet just paved streets) that ill go to and do stuf liek that.
Hahahah -Kmelfi11- that DK thing was funny. DK is my initials and the fact that I had a 350Z was just a coincidence. Haha. I originally bought the car because you can get one for around 10K. I got mine for 10.3K. The Z is great because it has a great "pivot point;" (the center of the weight distribution between the from and rear of the car) it's right in the center console while almost all mustangs the "pivot point" is in the top center of the where the dash and where the windshield meet. Thats what makes the Stang so hard to control into a drift. When you drift a Mustang the back end comes around SO QUICKLY. Thats why the true correct way to build a drift Mustang is to do full independent suspension. Thank you Forba for that link of the old D1 99 Mustang. I am fully aware of that beast I am just looking for a way to do that for less that 63K. A lot of drifters find cheap was to do the sport...so i didnt know if any Stang guys had found a way. Thanks for the post guys.
A guy in my engines class said there was a couple foxbody and new edge Mustangs at the last drifting event in Indanapolis(spelling?) 3 weeks ago when he went.

finally!! some one else that's interested in drifting haha. I just drift my 98gt, and its a blast. a lot of the drift events i go to people look at me weird cause im the only v8 mustang hah but they stop laughing when they see me. Im just running lowering springs/shocks, C/C plates, Sub frame connectors, bump stop, Shock tower braces, 10pt roll cage, sway bars. and youre right here in so cal too. willow springs(WSIR) has a bunch of events all the time. there used to be events at el toro air field. im on a pretty much stock motor just a few bolt on npi heads but its plenty for drifting up to 70+ but that's pretty advanced. i also on my stock dif, but it works fine. you can still do figure 8's j turns forward and reverse and keep it sideways and put up a lot of smoke
sorry its kinda long i just love drifting haha

i can throw the car just fine stock suspension, even with the 295s, of course i only really have fun in the rain...spendy tires, plus my cars falling apart and its a lot easier when its wet, not as hard on the car. Honestly no good spots around here so my drifting is a bit limited, also do the stop sign drifts lol they are almost as fun, i know what you mean about it coming around fast, but i solve that by being a pussy and just using the torque to break it loose, usually around 20-30, that way i have control of how far i let it come out, its a little crazy for me to try ebraking at 60 on roads....just scary as hell, plus my ebrake sucks ass.... might be more into trying that on a closed course but on empty roads under 30 im happy lol, saved my ass a few times too. i dont really see why they would be bad at drifting, put my stock tires on a good clutch and id think if you had an idea about how to drift itd be cake. 295s are a bit tricky with the lower hp tho.

lol I think we have almost all done that. But I was talking about actually doing it at an event. I have seen some cars drift at an autox but that's pretty low speed stuff.
Drifting just makes you slower at auto x. It does looks cool.
