Guessing this tool is useless on windsor cam swap?
I saw that AMS has this tool http://www.andersonfordmotorsport.co...camrettool.htm to prevent having to remove the timing cover when installing cams on a two valve motor. But I am guessing it's useless with the windsor because of it's pressed cam gears huh. Is there no getting around removing the entire cover? Thanks for any help guys. Just trying to make it as easy as possible.

Not sure about the tool, but I can say it is easy to get the cover off in the car. Belt, ps pump,ps resivior, balancer and maybe tensioner and idlers... Its a lot easier then ppl think
kinda nervous as I haven't found a good guide for doing the cams and the friend helping me can rebuild motors and all that jazz but he is a old school push rod guy :\
Man you must not have looked very hard because there is a GREAT cam/degree guide in the tech section of 4.6. It's hiding in with the stickies, because we all know those stickies are hard to find

the cam install should be easy. ur not replacing valve springs right? i say 8 hours MAX. as far as i know u dont need any special tool for the timing cover or to get the cams out. only for valve springs.
All I saw in there was an article to degree the cams. I did find this article http://www.modularrevolutiontech.com/Cam_Install.htm but am not sure how good it is. Maybe someone who has done it can tell me if I should follow that guide or not. Or even if I should change anything in that guide.
related but not really, there is another tool on that cam degree site for removing the springs without removing the cams, has anyone try that either???
It's cool. You aint hijacking lol. Yeah I'm not doing springs so I'm not to worried about that. But I do recall seeing some spring removal stuff while looking for guides for the cams themselves.

Once you get the timing cover/chains off.. I bet you will spnd 30min per cam installing them. once you get the valve cover off and see what really holds the cam in.. ull be like WOW
Its not to bad. I helped a buddy dismantle his 04 engine and it really is simple. Just make sure you torque EVERYTHING back to spec.
I'm not so worried about getting the cams out. The timing is my largest concern. I have removed and reinstalled the same cams in a DOHC 4 banger before but that's one chain. Now I will be starting with new cams and new cam sprockets. Maybe I am worried about nothing.
