Default Painting rims?

I was curious to see some of your guys opinions on this subject. I have to do something with the stock rims on my 99 gt. A friend of mine suggested painting them a graphite color with DupliColor paint. Do you think it will come out looking nice? Or should I just invest my money in some rims, I really like the cobra rims.

Powder coat them or invest in the rims you want. What color is your car?

My car is green, a friend told me they would look great on it but im not sure. I havnt seen any green mustangs with graphite color rims. i was just searching around and found some good tutorials on how to paint rims with duplicolor rim paint.

Quote:
Duplicolor has a wheel specific paint.
http://www.duplicolor.com/products/wheel.html

You probably want the satin black, but the Graphite is a REALLY dark gray. It would look sweet on your car.

Shopping list:
2 cans of dupilcolor self-etching primer (it is army green color)
2 cans of Duplicolor wheel paint (color of your choice)
1 can of Duplicolor clear coat (optional)
400-600 grit wet/dry sandpaper
package of index cards (only if tires are mounted)
1 bottle rubbing alcohol or anythign similar

1) clean and degrease wheels
2) sand with 400 to 600 grit sandpaper to rough them up
3) wipe off any dust with alcohol, let dry
3) place index cards between wheel lip and tire (if tires are mounted)
4) spray 3-4 light coats of self-etching primer
5) spray 4-5+ light coats of wheel paint
6) OPTIONAL: spray 2 coats of clear (will make wheel more shiny, but it also helps protect them)

Let cure then show of the new look of your ride!

4-5 coats paint is a little excessive... 2-3 should do, if done right....and clear coat is definately not optional...without clear the paint isnt going to stick very long

Thats what i was thinking too, no way in hell was i gonna do 5 coats that would be a ton of paint. Someone said that they used half a can of paint on one rim, BUT he did both sides of the rim because he said he was anal about it. I was also planning on doing a clear coat too.

goodluck man, make sure to post some pics of how they come out

worst case scenario, if they look bad youre only out a few bucks for some spray paint....you can always get them powdercoated after, or get new ones if you dont like how they came out
