Default Another cam thread

Hey guys, after checking my money situation I wont be able to get a vortech for a while... so i guess im staying N/A for a while... So i've been researching cams for my stang so i can try to keep up with those darn camaros :P.

here is the thing, I know i originally wanted cms stage 2 cams but now i see that i would have to remove either my valves and have the margins trimmed down or notches in the pistons. Since my car can't be down that long cams that require that stuff is out. I can do springs with the heads on if i have to.

So my question is with a pi swapped stang with the stock pi valves and stock pistons what is the best cam for me?

here are some that i though were pretty good:

MHS stage 2 N/a’s
225/223 550/500 Lsa 110

cms stage 1 N/A's
224/226 540/550 lsa 110

^cms has more o the exhaust side then mhs but mhs has more on the intake side...

cams that are too close?:

MHS stage 2P N/A’s
225/223 550/500 Lsa 109 <.005” clearance with stock pistons and valves

Hitech stage 2 N/A’s
234/230 550/500 lsa 111 < not sure, 234 duration but with 111 makes me ? them

Cms stage 2 N/A’s
225/235 560/575 Lsa 108 < if mhs has .005" at 109 then these will touch at 108.

thanks for looking guys

Id get either the hitech stage 2 or CMS stage 2. What does the 560/575 of the CMS make it better then the 550/500 of the hitech??

the cms 2's and hitechs require you to get aftermarket valves, margins grinned off the pi valves or flycut pistons. the lsa of the cms is 108 which is pretty advanced over the 110 of the mhs stage 2's even though they have similar duration...

The thing is I have to do the install myself. I will be replacing the stock cam gears with the mhs ones because the stock ones can be off by +/-4 degrees

I dont want to have PTV issues with the cms 2 and hitechs even though they are the best ones really

I mean since ur PI swapped you'll only need new valve springs correct with the stage 2s? At least thats what i thought

I know Nick has done some research....but how do you explain the hundreds or maybe thousands of cars like mine running these cams with no problems? Any aftermarket should be degreed and PTV checked to be sure but they're a lot of Stage II cams out that perform well with no PTV problems. Please someone explain??????????????

With the stock pi valves and pistons, the MHS stage 2's will be your best bet. There will be no need to retard the specs, notch the pistons, or machine the valves. I've done a lot of research in this particular area, and feel confident that this will be the best choice.

It also favors the intake side, which is more beneficial on the pi heads.

Post some proof of these claims. CMS cams generally favor the exhaust and will perform as well or better than cams favoring the intake. I've done a bit of research too. I went with CMS lol

Nick really needs to get on here, and explain this in detail. In the meantime let me ask you a few questions: 1). Are you running the stock valves and pistons with no modifications whatsoever? 2). When you degreed you cams in did you you install them at the advertised specs? No retarding of the IC or anything? 3). Do you know how much clearence you had after you degreed them in?
