Default $200 CAI...i don't think so! DIY help please

Ok boys, got the K&N filter on the car and thats fine and dandy...BUT now that im gettin this intake manifold and getting the engine cleaned, i wanted to get rid of that stock rubber intake.

SO...i know that there have been threads on the DIY intake..but i couldn't find any. So does anyone know what would be needed?

I was thinking some PVC, some hose & clamps, and some paint? I was thinkin a GT graphic too to go on the PVC.

Is it that easy or am i crazy??

Thanks guys, I just don't was to spend a bunch of coin on a new one when i can make one myself.

And don't worry if i do it...it will look GOOD lol.

you can go on ebay and buy a 40$ aluminum CAI that looks the same as the BBK's and MAC's. the fitment is a little off but completely functional.

if you can fabricate something i guess try it. or you can use some intercooler piping.

PVC isn't meant to with stand the temperature that your engine will produce. It will melt. I bought a cheap CAI off eBay and it works well. Intakes really aren't worth it on our cars...

PVC materiel will put up with engine bay temps fine, however the connections you are looking at will disrupt flow a bit (ex: corner, the inside has a lip). I would epoxy two piece of equal id together to get rid of the extra turbulent flow. Make sure to put the MAF in a straight piece of the pipe with some distance before and after it so the air flow is as laminar as it can get.

Just leave your stock piece on there. Unless you really take your time on it, its gonna look...home made.. which is never good.

yea i would leave the stock one. if i ever make one im making it out of fiberglass(because i have materials downstairs)

but thats when i get bored enough and have NOTHING to do. I know i wont gain anything by doing it other than something i can say i made with my own hands and is on my car...

I thought about making one out of fiberglass as well. I want to make one that has a better airbox.

so the cheaper ebay ones dont hurt performance? i have heard of ecu issues and error lights on s197s with ebay kits... is that just because they are newer and have different programming, ecus?
