Default how much is a sludged 4.6 worth?

Pulling my running engine out and installing an mmr 600. question is what is the engine worth. Has PI heads that I was considering holding on to or selling alone. 100K miles on engine now that is missing due to collapsed lash adjuster. Wouldn't be worth installing without tearing down and dipping to clean sludge.

I sold my almost complete NPI engine for $50. The PI heads should be worth more than that.

Got two right side timing chain tensioners. One clowyes and one Ford. In my area, I tried to get $100 and couldn't. It was $50 or the scrapyard.

The only thing I could think that could get you more is to strip it down and recycle the metals. I would think you could get more than $50 that way, but then it may not be worth the time removing all the plastic components. We had a guy taking just our blocks for like $25, but he was recycling them himself, so you know he was making a profit off them, just a thought.

Sludge comes from cold engine operation and dirty oil, both symptoms of frequent/mostly short trip around town driving and infrequent oil changes.

The engine needs to get hot to boil off the nasties in the oil--if it doesn't, and you don't change the oil frequently, you'll get sludge...

I sold my full 96 NPI motor for $350 to some asian dude. The motor had 160k+ miles and it passed smog. Not a bad deal I think.

About the sludge, cliff nail'd it. My buddy in his 5.3 short-bed, single cab siverado drove it hard for abour 20k miles and when he tried draining it, it came out in globs. So disappointing!
