Default drove an '08 GT....eh

Last weekend i test drove a used 08 GT 5 spd...

to be honest i did not like it one bit. it seemed to ride the same as my 04, it felt alot bigger and heavier than my 04, the clutch feel was horrible in my opinion. it was a feather comparted to my STOCK clutch. the shift handle/**** seemed to stubby and VERY loose. i actually stalled the car at a light b/c i couldnt hear the exhaust and the clutch engagement ahaha

the whole car seemed too nice for a "sports car". maybe it's me, but it was not raw enough to enjoy driving. all i have on my car is a MGW, UPR o/r X, and magnaflow catback, 75mm TB and plenum.

powerwise i did not notice a big diff pulling onto the highway "getting on it" over my 04.

not to knock the newer platforms, but it just didn't impress me. so from all you guys with 05's+, what made you buy yours? now maybe the 2010 and 2011's will be diff, but time will tell.

I sold my 98 Cobra for an 05 gt, but yea look what I drive now

I wanted one bad. the interior is nice, the car is a little bigger but with the right mods it'll haul. I did some work to my friends 09 GT, 4.10s, intake exhaust tune and it makes 310 to the wheels...and traps nearly 111

IMO the Mustangs Ford put out post 1974 either don't look like Mustangs at all (notchbacks, etc.) or look like "toys" (New Edge) compared to the Mustangs of 1969/1970 that I grew up around... so when the S197 came out in 2005 I applauded Ford's return to the Muscle Car & bought one as soon as I could fit it into my lifestyle.

As for your impressions of a stock GT - I suggest you test drive a supercharged S197 with decent tires that's been lowered etc... that's what most of us S197 guys do to them & then you have TRUE MUSTANG looks and performance in ONE package!

^ well i mean yea obviously a SC one will be more fun and whatnot, im basing this off of what rolled out of the factory....and how over my 04 i was not impressed. i assumed the pick would be better and the ride as well.

i mean my 04 is bascially stock since i dont even have a tune for any mods i have (i know i wont get much from and tune and my mods anways)

PERSONALLY i think the new edge's look the best. wasnt a big fan of how even the 2011's rears are designed. they slanted the taillights too far forward.

but like anything, with money and time they can also look BAD A$$ and haul as well lol

I drove a 2009 and had the same impressions. I found it to be a "sporty" car, not a sports car--the 2010 models are so pussified that they had to add a "sound tube" to trick the driver into believing they're driving a real sports car!

From this Ford website:
Mustang also features an industry-first Induction Sound Tube (IST), which enhances the driving experience by piping the sound of the induction system directly into the passenger compartment

I've not drove 1 but the S197's got a look about them that I want. I like the interior way better than my new edge.

I've owned a 2005 GT and a 2008 GT, I now have a 2001 GT, simply because it was way cheaper and I don't feel bad modifying it. I love the s197s from the retro look, the interior, the 3v motor, improved suspension. I don't like the weight, the clutch feels like s**t, the blind spots etc. I think my 01 feels and looks more like a sports cars where as the s197s to me look more like a muscle car and with exhuast and some modifcations felt more like a muscle car. Not really fair to compare the s197s to the previous mustangs as they are a totally different car.

I've heard this same opinion many times on the 05+ models vs. the new edges. Not sure the weight difference, but it does seem, at least visually, that the 05+'s are bigger cars, although I'm sure its not a significant amount of weight. I did not know about the "sound tube"..that's just weird.

ahah a sound tube....

that goes right along with cliffy's idea with the "pussification" of the mustang when cupholders were introduced.

*cliff, that quote about cupholders will stick with me. that was hilarious when i read it*

I traded my 04 mach1 for a brand new 07gt. I reason I did it was because I was on this "Fad" of wanting a brand new car. Boy did I mess up with that buy. I had the car for 1yr and then I sold it for my terminator. I put alot of parts on my 07 to make it faster but IMO it just did not feel like a mustang.
