0/R H-PIPE VS O/R X-PIPE
#11
So has anyone welded in high flow cats? Im lookin for a catted h pipe to replace my catted x pipe. What route should i go? Find a trade on an o/r h and weld or buy a catted h...and i kinda don't want bbk.

My friend has a bbk shorty catted h he uses just for emissions. I'll ask him if he's willing to trade or something for your catted x pipe. But welding in high flow cats will give you the same effect as buying a catted midpipe...but you probably wont have heat shields to protect the cats.

My x-pipe was O/R and now has welded in high flow cats (in my current GT), I had a BBK x pipe w/high flow cats (from BBK) on my 01. And the comparison is this in my 01 my BBK sounded deeper (hard to explain but think a car with cams that kind of throughty sound), and now in my 96 GT the O/R x pipe with welded high flow cats has a different tone it's a little louder I'd say but its a different pitch, not as throughty...I want to say a little bit of a higher pitch maybe a little more muffled I guess would be a good way to explain it? Of course the 01 has diff. heads/cams (they were stock) so its going to sound diff. then a 96, I'd say it depends on what kind of sound your looking for...the x pipe with highflow cats from the factory (bbk, ect) is going to be more a throughty sound, a little louder, lower pitch...the welded in sounds slightly more muffled, a little higher pitch (not ricey at all dont get me wrong), but definetly slightly quieter. Like I said I dont know if this has to do with diff. motors new vs old or what but the cars both have same bolt on's except 01 GT didnt have throttle body, plenum and intake (the 96 does) hope this helps
