Default Before/after comparison of 3.73 (updated with videos!)

My gears are going in my car 2 days from now. I have done some test pulls and timed them to show you the difference before and after gears. I have never seen anyone else actually do this and I hope it can provide some insight to people actually wanting gears. To keep everything consistent I will make sure the outside temp. and the amount of fuel in my car to be the same in the upcoming video with gears. I really think this video will be alot of help to people wanting gears. Enjoy them.

you should have Speedometer Recalibration Tool when you changed the gears

because 102.0mph with 3.27 is 89.4mph with 3.73

check this for more info http://www.paladinmicro.com/PalMFrame00.htm?wks=spd

You won't make 100 in 3rd with the 3.73s--that would take 6600 rpm or so.

It will be neat to see the results though--make sure you heat cycle those puppies 5 or 6 times before you go out and nail 'em...

Heat cycle? I was planning on waiting a day or two. Also in my 3rd and 4th vid I shifted at 95 mph instead of carrying all the way to 100. So that way it is more realistic to to the 3.73 with the extra shift.

On the road accelerate moderately to 50-60, hold it for 5-10 minutes then coast down and let the car sit for 10 minutes. Do this 4 or 5 times, 7-10 is better.

You can also do this while the car is on the lift (an old timer showed me this years ago), bring it up to 40-50 in 4th gear then hold it for 4 or 5 minutes and let it coast down to idle for 5 minutes--do this 7-10 times (your ABS light will likely come on because the front wheels aren't turning).

There are plenty who will say you don't have to do this, then again they are also plenty that report all sorts of noises, growls and whines after their gear install--I have always done one or the other (or both, lift first and then 3 or 4 on the road cycles), and have never had a problem with noise or premature failure of gears.

I used the on-the-lift/then road method when my FRPP (Motive sourced) 3.73s went in 65k miles ago--they were silent then and remain so over 3 years later...

Cliff i dont disagree with you much, and i actually dont now, because safe is good, but after i and my friend got our gears installed we pulled out of the shop sideway, and have yet to have any trouble out of our rear ends.

Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you wish you had done things right in the first place--one of the things I've learned the hard way more than once in 62 years...

My brother gave me that for Christmas, I have to have it in my workshop because SWMBO won't let it in the house...
