Default Cost of DIY Vortech V-1 (parts - no labor)

What's up guys. I said I would put something together about the cost of building a V-1 so here it is. My prices include shipping and tax where applicable. I found the head unit used through the classifieds on this section. This should really be the first thing you buy and you can then build your kit around it. I also found used injectors, which saved some money. The BAP I chose instead of a pump because of efficiency and ease of installation. A fuel pump would be cheaper, though, changing your total cost. I also put a footnote about an intercooler. I bought a kit, but am not using it right now, but will give you an idea of what to look for in terms of cost, if you want to intercool your set-up. I also included the tuning cost, because it is an integral part of getting your car up and running again after the install (I am also assuming the person already has a chip/hand held tuner and is not buying one specifically for this install). So here it is;

Headunit - $550
Mounting assembly - $295.88
discharge assembly - $219
intake assembly - $203
oil feed - $30.88
injectors - $75
BAP - $246.07
tune - $550
spark plugs - $16.88

GRAND TOTAL - $2186.71

Cost of intercooler kit shipped - $206.
Cost of Lightning MAF or similar. - approx. $100. (i already had one that I didn't pay for)
Keep in mind, this also assumes you have all the necessary tools to complete the installation. I have attached a link to the $1500 Vortech build so you can get links to the assemblies you will need for your install. I spent some extra money on top of this for tools that I did not have for this install, but I am not counting those toward the install. On the linked page, there is a link to the instructions or service manual on how to install it, and I used that.

Hope this gives you all some kind of idea on what it will take to 'get blown.'

Oh and here are some pictures of an installed V-1 and the installation process.

*** I'll edit this and add my dyno numbers once it is tuned (next Friday). I will provide the mods I have as well to give you an idea of the numbers you can expect.

Keep in mind if you buy the intercooler kit then you no longer need the discharge tube.

I thought that you were going to intercool it?! You'll find that was a big mistake to not do that. Youre leaving about 30-40rwhp on the table this way...

^ I was. But it wasn't an original plan, and I'm not looking to make this car a power monster. More of an all around type car. So I'm ok with no intercooler for now. My car will still be a lotttt faster and sound better than it does now, intercooler or not, lol.

And yes, as Kern's said you can swap those two parts out - however, there may be more work or parts needed with a intercooler depending on MAF type and IAT etc.

looks great, its funny that the discharge assembly is basically the same cost as a ebay intercooling kit, haha.

Can't wait to see what she puts down, what software are you using for the tune?

sorry for the horrible pics.... pretty much its the line that comes from the front of the Throttle body. If you are standing in front of the car, look at the T/B. follow the red vacume line to the passenger side of the car (left). It goes under the Intake tubing over the valve covers. This is where my T is, in that line. I am pretty sure that anything on that line would be fine.. as long as you keep it one system.

Well you got me beat. Kerns and I pieced mine together for around 2100 bucks, including intercooler and Anderson power pipe (but not including the 450 bucks for the tune). Man your set up looks great. Can't wait until you start her up.. BTW what numbers are you hoping for??
