That's about what I'd expect for a decent job at a non-franchise shop.

Maaco's "top-end" paint job for a Mustang would be $1200 to maybe $1500, depending on where you are located.

to be honest thats a good price, Ford will charge you damn near $6000, ($58xx IIRC last time i checked)

Also there is a whole lot of time going into making sure there are no dents through-out the whole car, taking off both bumpers, side skirts, sail panels (above and behind the windows)
spoiler, headlights, tailights, vents door handles,. which include taking many interior panels off, as does the sail panels. Then you have the sanding and prepwork... which is a BIIIITCH, taping included, i helped my friend prep my car this summer, he works at a bodyshop so he ended up spraying it for me.
