You don't need a tune with gears to make the gears function per se, but your speedometer can't be accurate with the gear change, right? That's what the tune is for...

As far what car to get, GT 5 speed.

As far as mods... to ME, Ford messed up big time with the GTs. They should have had independent rear suspension, a 6 speed transmission and bigger brakes, and 9" wheels from the factory.

My car has:

IRS out of a Cobra
13" front Cobra brakes, 11" rear(comes with the IRS)
17x9" wheels
Full exhaust(Long tubes, o/r h pipe, catback)
Pro-Kit springs
K&N filter with stock intake
More tuning software/Accessories than most shops. LOL
+ many many more little things that arnt really important to this thread.

As far as making it look good, a styling bar is a must. I have the CDC light bar(looks the best IMO) and mach 1 auto guages with retro ring inserts. I have an MGW shift ball and e brake handle. Other than that, thats really all you need to make the interior look ****.

Dont over do it and put chrome EVERYTHING like a lot of yahoos do, it looks cheesy.

Pic ***** time.

I no longer have the A/F gauge because I bought a different wideband o2 setup. Now I no longer have to look at the damn thing all the time.

And if you badge your GT as a cobra I WILL find you.

WTF kind of law is that. That is the most retarded thing iv ever heard. But I guess you cant expect anything less from a nanny state.

Tan top is fine, you just need to actually take care of your car and not be a lazy SOB.

You do need a tuner with new gears bc your speedo will be off and not by a small amount. Do a gear swap and dont update it in the computer with a tuner then turn on the gps if you have one and so a speedo comparison it Will be off, so you need to update the computer with a tuner if you change out the gears to calibrate the speedo.

We will see how well you take car of it the first week you have it and the top is covered in bird shat. lol

And no, thats a stupid law. So if your saving up for your first car and find one for 10 bucks, you cant get it because its a standard.. that would NEVER hold up in court. It wont be long before that law is challenged and repealed. Stupid nanny states.

I agree, convertibles are the way to go! Once you get one, you'll never go back! I am on my 3rd convertible Mustang over the last 10 years! The day I get a hard top is the day I am old!

And really? A law saying new drivers can't drive a manual? That's idiotic. The mistakes that young people tend to make while driving aren't about shifting. They're about poor decision making. You have meroons in your state government!!
