Question I scored a free stang! Now what??

So I recently picked up a free 2001 Roush Mustang, It has no motor or trans. I would like to get it back on the road and use it as a daily driver to keep miles off my truck. I live in California and have to smog, what could be swapped into this thing? I am not familiar with the newer modular Ford motors, and there interchangeability. Also I am not sure about the smog rules regarding a truck motor into a car vs a car motor into a car. Also I am looking at trying to do this as inexpensively as possible. What would you all suggest? I will try and get a few pics of the car up soon so you can all hate me for getting it for free.

If you wanna stay inexpensive I would say go with the 2v 4.6 gt motor. But since you got that bad boy free I would throw in an 03/04 terminator motor and a sweet t56 tranny. Start looking on eBay and craigslist and possible junk yards

Thats what I was thinking, I have a buddy that works at a wrecker, who is looking for a GT mustang motor for me. I was curious though if a truck motor is basicly the same thing? I mainly deal with LS motors in my race vehicle, and those things are really universal!

You should go with a 5.4 from an f150 and a t56. I think thatd give the best bang for the buck

It's a stage 3 I believe, it says supercharged roush on the back. It currently has a 5.4l in it thats bored and stroked to a 5.8, it is out of a gt500. Motor doesn't come with the car though.

If you want the easiest thing get any 99-04 Mustang 4.6. Do not look at 96-98 4.6's they are dogs. I wouldn't look for Crown Vics 4.6 but if you do look for 2001 up. The intake on a Truck 4.6 is really tall and would require a taller hood.
4V Cobra's are also relatively easy to swap.
And you mentioned LS motors there are people that make K-members to swap a LSX into a Mustang
