Default Might have to replace transmission, best options?

So on my way to school today, my transmission refused to come out of 5th gear when I went to get off on my exit. Got it stopped, and the shifter just wouldn't budge. Currently the car is at the Ford Dealer in town, waiting to see what they say is wrong with it before I decide what to do next. So in the case that they say it needs a new transmission, what are my best options? I don't want to just replace it with a new T45, I'd rather go with something that can take a bit more abuse since I'm planning on putting a V1-s on it soon, and forging engine next year anyways. I'd rather not spend too much, but at the same time I'd like something that can handle around 5-600 when I eventually get there.
Thanks!

Ford Dealer finally called me back, they want 1100 just to possibly fix it by dropping it, checking inside, changing clutch, throw out bearing, and pressure plate.. So I'm thinking I'll just bite the bullet for sure now and change transmissions. How would just a standard T56 hold up?

$1100 just to change the clutch, TOB and pressure plate? Don't do it. That is a terrible price.

So they told you its 100% a clutch problem and not an internal trans issue?. Tow the car to my house I'll do it for 500 and thats with parts lol

lol yeah I wasn't too happy about the 1100 to maybe fix it.

Haha, I'll keep that in mind WhiteFox if I get too fed up with this place, nice long drive might give me a while to calm down!

Personally I was thinking it probably isn't a clutch issue since when I held the clutch in, the Highway Patrol Officer was able to push me out of the intersection I was in, but then again I'm still learning. I thought I've read about the TKO's having issues shifting from 2-3, is this true? At this point I'm just saying f it, I'll just hold off on the vortech and swap it. They quoted it at 480 to swap transmissions, how bad is that? If I were to order a transmission, do I need to get a kit, or just the transmission? I was looking at these earlier and was wondering what I need.. http://www.americanpowertrain.com/Tr...rd-Mustang.htm Thanks again!

Had similar problems...blew clutch paid a ford stealership ~900$ to replace clutch. Still had problems, gettin into 3rd hard shifting sometimes popping out of 2nd etc.. put a spec stage 2 in. I figured the trans was junk due to syncro problems possibly bent shift fork. Drove around on the spec stg 2 ~500 miles most of powershifting the crap outta it and clutch blew apart and put a hole in the bell housing. Trans leaked all the oil.

Ended up swapping to a c4 auto (street race/drag car now) total swap was around $3,600 for a 750-1000hp trans. I thought about a t56 but they are a lot of money to still will run into problems with clutchs blowing etc..

01snake, I seriously thought about doing the same thing, but being stuck in an automatic all winter, I miss a manual a little too much. Just more fun some times.

So anyways I just pulled the trigger on a Magnum T56! Going to just take my time and swap it out myself, hopefully it all goes well. Doesn't sound like it should be too bad. Was a little bit pricey, but for the peace of mind knowing that it can take just about anything I'm going to throw at it, I'm more than satisfied. Gonna have to put the Vortech on hold for now since I still need brackets, and intercooler, and piping, but oh well.
