engine swap
its time for a new motor i have 190xxx on my 01 gt. i dont know which direction to go 5.4 2v or 4v or a 4.6 4v. either way i want close to 300 rwhp. i have found all 3 motors, mark VIII 4.6 4v, navigator 5.4 4v, expedition 5.4 2v all for $600-900. im looking for any suggestions i dont have a large budget something like 2400 including the engine but, not including a little i set aside for replacing the head gaskets, oil pump/pickup, spark plugs.. all the little things i know i might need.

If you don't have a large budget, or a complete donor car, I'd suggest sticking with the same thing you have, because swapping a 5.4 anything will nickle and dime you to death. If ther motors you are looking at are complete, you may skate by with a little luck. But with the 5.4 you'll need to modify or change your x-pipe for sure. I'd go with the 4.6 4 valve though if a swap is a must but it should take you over your 300HP goal easily. Just my .02 though, I'm sure you'll get a lot of support for the 5.4 4 valve as well.

A small fortune for a 5.4? Hardly..
You can pick one up for next to nothing, and its a direct swap in minus the adapters for the intake and getting a midpipe to fit. More torque and a set of cams/intake away from being able to yield good power in the upper rpms.
Doing a 5.4 swap is one of the easier motor swaps for this car.. if you guys are saying that will nickel and dime you... then pretty much everything will. Its probably one of the best bang for your bucks mods out there if you can do the swap yourself.

I will stick with them... and ill be making an assload more torque than any 2v out there doing it. You can get a 5.4 shortblock for like 150 bucks... thats dirt cheap and will cost nothing to install other than the midpipe, and intake adapters(which are like 200 bucks). A 5.4 2v with ported heads and good cams with a HPS intake will do be teh shezzzyyyy

if you do go with a navigator 4v 5.4, heres a option to use on a upper manifold. use a edlebrock adaptor with a 2v factory style plenium.
