Cool Carbon fiber cobra R & trunk lid.

I'm thinking about buying the car on fiber trunk and hood for my 97 GT convertible. Cruizinconcepts is where I seen these items. Anyone have and insight they can lend me before I actually purchase these upgrades?

I am guessing you are going to leave them CF finished? Or are you going to paint them? Are you doing it just for weight purposes? I don't know what they run, but if you're repainting, i'd probably look for fiberglass or a cheaper material.

I'm not going to paint them. It will match the convertible top and windows. I'm doing it for temperature reasons (cowl hood). The back is so it will match and I guess for weight reasons; as the convertible is heavier than a coupe. Mainly doing it for style.

I dont know if i would do both. I'd go as far as the hood, but the trunk is just not the right idea i'd say. Plus that would look odd without the car being two-toned. I'd leave it like it is honestly, or buy a fiberglass hood of the same style. it will be cheaper and still be reasonably light.

I don't know much about carbon fiber. You should try the search function, I remember reading a similar thread a while ago about a similar topic. As for looks, I can't see that looking good. Would you paint your spoiler black or just leave it off? I feel like your car would look unfinished. I can't see you saving that much weight from just doing a carbon fiber hood/trunk lid....

Hmm you're right. The car would look unfinished unless 2-toned. Predicaments. Maybe I shod keep the appearance as stock as possible and upgrade in performance.....? It's either the hood or a touch screen pioneer stereo.

It's showing that your last car was a honda (no offense). If it was me, I'd get 4.10 gears, lower the car, get a chin spoiler, and put a h-pipe on the car. I wouldn't go screwing around with the body of the car unless it A.) needed fixed or B.) the car was fast as hell and I had nothing better to do with my money. If you want to swap out stero components, can't beat pioneer stuff (have it in my car). I don't think you need to shell out big time money though for the touch screen... Pics of the car?

^And it would probably cost the same amount of money for all that plus an install of the 4.10's.

But OP, I read somewhere that the trunk doesn't really offer that much weight savings when changing to a CF one.

If you are worried about weight, you could look into an aluminum driveshaft. I think you save about the same weight and you will allow for less parasitic hp loss with it too. It's probably the same or less than what you would spend on a CF trunk at least.
