So basically I got some rod knock going on in my 2001 Mustang GT. Pretty sure the crankshaft is done as well. Haven't gone into the engine yet to really find out, but based on the sounds the car is making, I'm pretty sure this is the case. Obviously if these things are true, especially the crankshaft, I'm gonna be looking at a rebuild.

Does anyone have any suggestions of the most cost effective way to do the rebuild. I just don't wanna spend the 4-5k it's looking to cost for a whole new engine.

I'd appreciate your input.

Machine costs, and parts from mmr. IMO get a whole new bottom end so itll handle whatever in the future.

mmr = modular mustang racing, they build complete blocks and have all the internals you would need for a rebuild for higher hp applications.

First off, what are you intentions for your vehicle? Going to up the power? Maybe a supercharger, turbocharger, or nitrous? If so, like posted above, go to modular mustang racing's website to checkk out complete bottom ends for your vehicle. Theyre made to handle some power.
If you plan on leaving it somewhat stock, maybe a few boltons, just look around online for a low mileage motor to just replace your current motor. Could probably pick one up for around $1000. Ive seen a few on the corral forum.

Let us know what your future plans are for the car, and we can give some recommendations.

I wanna keep it naturally aspirated but I wouldn't mind adding another 75-100HP, but i'm not wanting to spend more than around 3500 bucks doing it all.

Get a shortblock from MMR. throw a 150 shot on car... done deal.

Price to have someone machine your block & for parts id rather have someone send me one with a warranty.

MMR Street Mod 600 Forged Rotating assembly (96-04 2 valve only) $1499.99 Take your block to a machine shop, have it inspected and machined if necessary, and have this kit installed. Itll be more effort, but could save a few pennys for some basic mods.

If your overall goal is only around 300hp, theres no need to get a block like that. Look for a used motor with decent miles and get a decent set of cams and longtubes, and depending on your air intake, upgrade that somewhat aswell. Theres no need building a block for 600 hp when all you want is 300hp. But if you ever plan on boosting it, then itd be worth it.

To have someone machine your block cheap is $200 average $400.

To have someone put together your block your looking at 800-1500 in labor...
