Unhappy hungary mechanic

I just bought a 2002 gt convertible with 4.6l crate motor(all manley internals) bbk headers and cold air intake and 75mm throttle body.
engione had two burnt pistions(only 40k on motor) I had it rebuilt
and mechanic says I have to buy tuner for the thing because the
stock ECU is not enough for the motor and thats why she burned two
pistons?????????? those two cylinders had bad coilpacks....after rebuild
he gets check engine light(which i didn't get before) and says the
computer is bad??????????? help done dropped 4k on it....

first, how could you have 2 burnt pistons and not get a check engine light? the pcm should throw missfire codes.
2nd, what are the current codes that are turning on the light? it may be something simple.
3rd, you will need to come up with more information on the mods done to the motor in order for someone to tell you if the pcm needs to be custom tuned on a dyno(for example type of camshaft, compression ratio ect.) from what you described for bolt ons no tuner needed, but we need to know what is done to the short block.

How the hell do you melt two forged pistons on a non-FI motor and NOT know it wasn't running right, i'd say its almost impossible.
