Got me a new(ish) 2001 GT Engine!
Hey everyone,
My 1998 GT's engine pretty much blew up a couple weeks ago, so I went engine shopping!
This is a 2001 Windsor Block Gt engine, the engine had 45k miles on it when it was pulled on of the car. It was pulled out two years ago, so it's been sitting for that long. It still turns over and seems to have good compression.
The clutch and flywheel that were on it were the stock Ford ones and they seemed in really good condition so I don't think the car was driven too hard.
A very interesting thing I discovered is that the engine was rebuilt in 2003 by Ford, there is a small plate on the side of the block that has a Re-man date and number. I called up a buddy of mine at Ford and he looked it up and confirmed the rebuild, but wasnt really sure what for.
So what do you guys think? It cleaned up pretty well I think. Oh and I am just wondering everyone's opinion, is it a good thing that it was remanufactured, or bad?

re-man prob equal rebuilt...and since it was done at Ford i'm sure it had to meet OEM specs after the rebuild. Better than some receipt showing Joe-Shmo rebuilt it in his backyard garage.
Long Tubes would be agood idea if you have the cash while the motor is out...
Only thing I would be curious on would be why it was rebuilt with less than 45K mi on it. But again, whatever the reason you would prob bet it was rebuilt RIGHT @ Ford

That's the one thing that concerns me as well. I drained the oil on it today and it had 5.5 quarts, and after sitting for a year or two that's not bad. The oil was relatively clean as well.
I really want to do Headers, the main problem is the price, after the headers and the new H pipe I'd be spending more than the engine cost itself, and it was hard for me to afford the engine!

Looks good. It has the aluminum crossover manifold, which was NOT original probably, so it's probably part of the 2003 rebuild.
Also, are you sure it's a Windsor? My 2001 has a Romeo, but came with the all plastic intake, which I had to change out earlier this year due to a crack.
