Restraint Control Module blown... Ford want's a lot, now what?

Ok, I'm still having trouble finding a box with my number. Does anyone know if any box will work so long as its from a 2000 GT coupe? Or do the numbers have to match due to different options or setups on different cars?

FWIW the 2000 shop manual show this part number for the RCM:
It also shows the same number for 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004--though I have found that the part numbers in the shop manuals do not always relate in any way to the p/n's on the components.
I found the same p/n listed for the F-150, Expedition/Navigator, Crown Vic/Grand Marquis and a few other larger/"legacy" models...

I think I'm an idiot. I need to look again and remember to reverse the numbers for the mirror haha. Looks like that's the number in my car. I'll have to go check out some F-150's. As always, you're the man. If we ever meet up I'm definitely buying you a beer.

Well I found one out of an 03. It's the same number, but it's A"E" instead of A"D" like my module is. He said it's listed as a service part for my car. What do you guys think, should I used it?
They said they wanted $110 for it. I talked them down to $100. Said I can get one aftermarket for 80 and get mine rebuilt for 60. Told them to call me back if they can do better. But I think the best route is to stay OE Ford on this thing, I don't trust aftermarket, and I don't really trust someone on ebay rebuilding my part.

Same Problem
We have a vehicle that has an issue with the RCM being full. The vehicle has definately not been wrecked so I'm guessing that the bracket is broken.
Were you able to repair and replace yours? We are trying to figure out what to do about ours so we can have it inspected.

check it for codes, if it has the crash detected code, its smoked. If thats the case, you must replace it. As far as "proving" out the system.....skip that whole useless step. You depower the SRS (if you feel unsafe for some reason; I even skip that step) Replace the RCM and plug it all back in and start the car. The Airbag systems in Fords will test as soon as the key is on, and light will go out on its own if the problem is solved. You should clear the codes when its all said and done (if any remain in the memory) but even that isnt necessary

As you have found there is nothing to "program", the Ford dealer you spoke to originally (way back when) was either trying to rip-you off or did not know what they were talking about--most likely the latter...

Great advice
Was in an bumper bender where both air bags went off and the front two seat belts locked up. Took truck in for estimates to three different shops and the insurance adjuster came by. Came across this thread after only the insurance company included replacing the ECM and was trying to find out what that meant.
Insurance company total it (mostly b/c of air bags), but are letting me buy it back for about $575. Actual cash value was just over 11k, and repair total isless so in Texas it won't get a salvage title.
We got just about everything repaired/replaced this weekend after a day at a Wrench A Part Junkyard. Replaced the seat belts, both airbags, grill support, fixed the grill and grill surround. Bumper and bracket needs some work to reattach, but other than that, it's about fixed.
Except for the flashing light for the SRS. We tested the clockspring with a meter, before putting in the new air bags and it tested fine. I have code reader plug in and app on my phone, the truck's not throwing any additional diagnostic codes, but dad said the SRS light is flashing the code 19.
Dad's impressed with your knowledge Cliffy (me too as I know nothing about resistors, but he does) and we hoped you might have some insight.
We also got a module at the junkyard (parts came off a 2001/2002 Expedition), but it had two wires going into it and had a giant A, mine had one wire - second port has no pins - and a giant B on it.
Any insight would be appreciated.
