Default 98 gt motor in a 96 gt body

Ok let start with I new on here. I don't know if this has been talked about before or not if it has pleats tell me how to find it. Ok here is what I got. I just got my first 96 gt convertible. I thought it was a good deal at the time. Now I am looking to change the motor in it to a 98 gt motor. What all will need to be done to make this work. I'll have the 98 there to get all the parts off of it. There both 5 speeds the 98 is a hard top the 96 is a convertible that's the only real thing. I know the 98 has a different fuel system on it but what all will I need to do to make it work. For everyone wanting to know why I'm looking at another motor it's because the guy told me the check engain light was on and it keeps throwing different codes. The car has like 170,000 miles on it but the 98 has less then 60,000 on it. That's the reason I'm looking to change the motors over. Thanks for the help and sorry this not the best post im a newbe with this kind of thing.

personally I wouldn't wast your time with a 98 4.6 it is the same crappy motor in your car now. Consider getting a 99 up 4.6L

Your going to swap motors for a check engine light??? I would scan it and see what is the issue and not take someone else's word for it. If it has compression, oil pressure and is not making any noise, I don't see why you would need to.

Yeah the 98 motor will swap over but I would personally go with a 99+ 4.6 out of a mustang or a 01+ out of a crown vic. Not worth keeping a non pi motor around.

I would listen to the above before you did this because you're just going to be wasting your time and money. And if there is a 98 why don't you sell your 96 and buy the 98? This whole thing seems impractical.

And if you did this swap, I wouldn't bother swapping out your fuel system. Just keep the old style system and they make adapter bolts. I think UPR sells them. I actually think I have a really old thread I posted when I originally thought about doing this and there is a link to the part too on it. But I don't think the fuel system changed until the 99's came out, I could be wrong.

Well see its like this the 96 is a convertible I got to have the vert. But I can get the motor and all for free not there is no big deal with the money. Also it's the miles and all and the 98 is supercharged I can take the bbk stuff off the 96 and add it to the 98. And the 98 has the return less fuel system. Mid year they changed the fuel system. I been told the guy I got the car from had it in the shop and the guy told him he thought it was the ecu. So I thought about getting a ecu and trying that. But I was just thinking and all.

Oh any by the way I could just take the heads and intake off the pi motor and add to the 98. But I was told to go with trick flow not the pi with the supercharger becouse of the compression it would be 10 to 1 I think if I remember right. Was told with the supercharger that would make it very easy to blow the motor.

Well today after I changed the plugs I started the car up and then it started me make some noise I don't know from where it stopped before I could get there to try to find it. Then I drove the car and light came on.

trick flow heads are either the same size or smaller chambers than PI heads, youre looking at either 10.7 or 11.4:1 compression...

just find an engine out of a 01+ crown vic, town car, or marguis and use your exhaust and TB elbow combo itll be fine...
