Default mach 1 air bags deployed

Hey whats up guys...I'm normally in the classic section as my project is a 67 mustang, but im looking at picking up an 03 Mach for a daily driver. It has 48k on it with a tune, shifter, intake and cat back. A kid that i know from school owns it and he said he bought it off of the original owner bone stock. However, the said the original owner bumped into a pole while parking it (those yellow cement poles at the end of a parking spot) and it cracked the bumper and deployed the air bags. He said it was a freak accident and the title is clean (not salvaged)...he's asking 14 and change for it. what do you guys think? The airbag thing rubs me the wrong way a little...am I overacting? or should i pass?

Thanks All

Take a look at it in person if you can. Look at the title yourself to verify there is nothing funny. Look at it's carfax and see if they report any major damage or inconsistencies...and then go from there. I think you could use the air bag thing as leverage and work him down a lot.

I'm assuming the air bags were fixed as well as the bumper?

He is completely full of crap, it takes a LOT more force to blow the air bags than just bumping into a pole. At 14K, he is out of his damned mind, I say more like $7500.

If the airbags are still deployed, then offer much less. The car is going to need both bags which are expensive and a RCM module.

Theres no way bumping a pole could of triggered the sensors for the airbag, did you ever see where they are at in the front end? and 14k is outrageous price.

As said before it does take quite a bit of force to deploy the airbags, but I would put it on a lift or have a certified mechanic put it up and check for frame damage. If everything's fine on the car and the titles clear then I wouldn't see a problem with it. Plenty of shops do examinations for close to nothing so if your serious about the car I'd go that route.

I do agree it normally takes a little force to blow the bags but there are strange instances of bags going off in cars. I was at an AutoX this summer where a Brand new CTS-V wagon had all it's bags go off for no reason out on the course
If the bags have been replaced I'm sure you could talk him down on the price. I don't know why these guys are being so harsh about the bags being deployed

I actually talked to the Ford dealer and the tech I talked to said people hit pot holes and the things go off sometimes. It's more common than people thing for bags to just deploy for no reason. Id say check the car out and if it looks ok go for it, just no way in hell for 14k.. Maybe 12 if it's a clean clean car.
