My understanding is that the steeper you go in gear ratio, the harder it is to completely avoid noise. I believe there is a degree of truth to that, but it is possible to install 4.10 with no noise. A second opinion is a good idea if the noise is significant enough to bother you.
GOOD LUCK!!!

For me, I can live with some noise, as long as I know im not doing any damage, im fine with it. To be honest, I expected this somewhat when I set out to have this done, especially since a reputable shop is hard to find in omaha.

Well I called ford racing about the parts numbers and they told me they are all the same they just have a new part number. They also said under no circumstances should the gears be that loud and that mine were not properly installed. He said do not drive 500 miles and see if it goes away. He said it shouldn't be driven at all with the way it sounds. So unfortunatly I do have to drive it 25 miles to the shop this morning and try to get them to fix it. I'll let u know how it goes.

Oh also ford racing told me the gears were the same gears used in the new production cars. Should be very little noise from them.

Yeah. They shouldn't be making that much noise. Hopefully that shop (that doesn't know how to install gears) will do you right. Good luck.

Sounds like the backlash settings aren't quite right... When the bearings in my rear went, same symptoms... loud whine on decel, the faster I was going, the louder it got. When I got around to tearing mine down, the problem was obvious - 1/4 inch of play in the carrier/ring assembly. Good luck!

Ok took it back to the shop. I told them about the whine and the mechanic said well let's take it out and see. At first he said it wasn't that bad.said you could drag race it like this and it would be fine. Then he said the noise was because of the backlash, which would loosen up with more driving. I wasn't willing to accept that and he said he could adjust it today but it would be basically after hours on his own time because he was booked up. Other than that it would have to be Wednesday. So I went outside to make a call to get a ride and when I came back this is what he and the owner had to say. This is a major F-up and we are just going to replace the gears under warranty at no cost to you. So they are going to replace the gears this afternoon/this evening. Hopefully it will be right this time. I will let you all know.
