CLIFFY,
If the lenses are in pretty bad shape, simply buffing them with a polishing compound may not do the trick. On the bad ones I start with 600grit wet paper, then 1000grit, 1500grit, 2000grit, then hit it with the polishing compound. Even the bad ones come out REALLY good with this procedure. Usually the bad ones have way too many scratches in them to simply polish out.

We did that years ago to "shave" the raised DOT labeling off the lenses.
My granddaughter's headlights are not scratched, just yellowed all to heck--however I suspect you are correct and I need to take off more surface material than buffing compound can accomplish...

OP, you are definetely on the right track as far as mods go. Get rid of that spaghetti strand stock shifter; wait 'til you take it out, it's the cheapest POS I've ever seen. You can bend it with your bare hands. I went with the MGW, the shortest, at the time, blue one. Took me all of 45 minutes to install, and I'm no mental giant. Gears are #2, 410's N/A, or 373's if you go S/C'ed. Of course, gears give you NO real HP, but it feels lke ya get 50+. Before I got her S/C'd, my best time was 14.1., almost stock. 373's dropped me down to a consistent 13-7, 13.8. I had to shift into 4th @ about the 1150' area, instead of staying in 3rd all the way down the strip, but it was worth it. S/C that mother with 373's and all the goodies that come with it, and you'll have a Mustang damn close to Supercar status; i.e. 12.0 - 12.5 et.
