What do you mean by "honed", dumb question... So that's probably what could have happened.. But I want to do it right this time so that it doesn't happen again. So I need all this info I can get.

I think he meant "planed".

Engine block in a planer:

Though planers have generally been replaced by surface grinders in the automotive community the term has persisted.

Cylinder head in a surface grinder:

In engine production and rebuilding honing is generally used to produce the final finish in cylinder bores, however one could argue that a surface grinder is a precision hone for flat surfaces.

Cylinder being honed:

yes, I was referring to resurfacing the mating areas of the head and block, rather than honing the cylinders. I usually know what I'm talking about, but that doesn't mean anyone else knows what I'm talking about....

I'd love to be able to tell you I have never been there and done that...

Well, I put brand new heads on it when this happened.... So would I have still had to get them done? But another thing that came to mind is when I got the heads I opened the box and they sat in my garage for a good like 2 weeks... Could that have caused anything like warping and made this issue occur?

even if the heads were good to go, the block may have been uneven, maybe just in one spot. Or, the heads may have been torqued improperly and caused a gasket to fail. Or, maybe the gaskets are fine, and it's just a simple matter of a cracked head or block.

Just curious did you buy new head bolts or reuse the old ones? Never ever reuse head bolts as they stretch once they have been torqued to spec.

Nope I got new head bolts, im pretty sure they were torqued right also. I'll define hotly check the top of the block this time to see if it's uneven. Also what's the best gasket to use? Anyone have preferred brands?

Ok good then I would say either the block needs to be resurfaced, or you my have inadvertently damaged the gasket doing the swap.
