Tachometer INOP?

Tachometer INOP?
Over the last two or so months, my tach has been reading zero at idle (intermittently) and not reading anything until my engine speed surpasses 2500 or so and will 'jump' to correct speed. Often times I'll find that it is reading considerably lower than my actual engine speed.
I spoke with whitefox about this when it started happening and he said something about a relay near/around my coil packs? I do see a small pigtail off of the main harness that feeds to each coil pack that has a small grey connector attatched to it. I'm not too sure if this is what he was talking about, but one could only assume.
Anyone had any similar issues with their tach? Seems strange to me.
Thanks in advance!

You could always put the cluster in the diagnostic mode and see if the gauges sweep correctly and if the PCM is giving the correct information to the cluster.

crank sensor. thats not your issue. If the rpm source was the issue, the car would not run. Its running fine, leading me to believe its a com/part error on the gauge side. I bet the motor in the cluster is on its way out
