Default I NEED HELP! I THINK I BLEW A ROD...

I have a V6, 3.8L 2000 Ford Mustang, 195k. I got it about 6 months ago and didn't have any problems. Then it started making what I can only describe as an engine rattle a few weeks ago, so I parked it last week till I could check it out (been working 12 hour shifts everyday for the last 14 days). Today, I got off early, checked the oil and there was almost none on the stick so I thought I better just go ahead and take it to get an oil change and when I started it up it began to knock. I think I blew a rod and so I am wondering if it will be just better to get another engine, perhaps even upgrade to a V8. What should I do? Where can I get another engine from? What are the costs involved? I am a newbie to the ins and outs of all the mustang talk so please keep that in mind.

There was no oil in it so you wanted to drive the car to get oil?

No actually it had what I considered no oil, or extremely low oil but what I considered to be enough to go a few miles to get an oil change. Thanks for your help and God Bless.

maybe like $800 tops, its a v6.

op- the only way to know what happened is to pull the motor apart yourself and look. with 195k and not enough oil, it sounds like something is def damaged. could be a crank bearing. all i can say is i hope your mechanically inclined and you dont have to pay somebody to fix it. good luck!

How many pi motors and 4v's did we see down there.Plenty of them for around $100 when they're on sale.We should have grabbed that complete 4v c head that was just sitting there in front of the car it came out of.
