First and foremost I dont know why I ever think ive heard or seen it all. OP you got totally hosed and its stuff like this that makes me really paranoid of ebay or just trusting somebody's word on parts. Its one thing to buy some usedof headlights orare somethin. There are some real A-holes out there. Kinda unbelievable. Did it look like he used a bunch of loctite or something? Was it ashy and white on the threading? Had to be that or some of the previously mentioned stupidity.

The threading on 1999-2000 and i believe some 2001of heads for the 2Vs was way too little(2-3 threads). Spark plugs were blowing out frequently(especially on boosted motors) and ford put a TSB on it and changed the head design midway through 01 to double the threads. I dont think they did a recall though. Due to this they learned their lesson by the time the 03 cobra heads were engineered and they have plenty of threading.

Best of luck there Mr.Shadetree Overlord.I'm glad you got it figured out before doing something stupid like puting a small block in there(inside joke). However I could have used your pro charger.

No locktite, the two scenarios I can think is 1) He didnt start the threads but hand it just cranked them on with a ratchet cross threading everything. 2) He never heard of a torque wrench and way over torqued the bolts.

I know this isn't a Mustang issue but my 2002 F150 blew a plug out of it's 5.4 motor, so they were still using the short thread heads until then. You would have thought they would have taken care of the problem by then. Luckily I was able to fix it myself. Ford wouldn't repair the head, they would only replace it.$$$$$$$
