A t56 is prolly out of your budget. If you can find a built 3650 in your price range, thats probably going to suit you better.

i got my hands on a 03 cobra t56 trans with 50k miles on it for 1500... it comes with bell housing and a clutch.... all i will need is the cross member and to rewire the harness for the lock out? does anyone have a write up on how to do this? also is it true i need to change the yoke on the drive shaft?

You dont have to wire the lockout up. I didnt when I installed my t56. The only thing it will do is make it hard to push into reverse. You do need the yoke. The transmissions have a different amount of splines on the output.

ok i could be a little confused. first off, i am pretty sure the input shaft on the t-56 is 10 spline, im not sure what you keep breaking on the 3650s but the input shaft would be the weak point in the t-56 tranny. Second, im also pretty sure the output shaft on the tranny to the driveshaft is 31 spline? in either case when i did mine the factory splined gt shaft fits, i just had to have it shortened 1 inch since the t-56 is longer. Honestly i left the reverse lockout unwired, i like having to force it into reverse, means i dont have to worry one bit about somehow gettin it in there by accident.

some people upgrade to a 26spline input shaft. My output is 31 spline aswell. I plan on wiring the reverse lockout to a switch this weekend since my tranny is out right now from a bad throwout bearing. Thats one thing ive learned on these cars. Never ever put cheap parts on a car where they are hard to replace!

sadly buying good parts doesnt save you from premature failing...lol i bought a center force when i did my swap. 500 miles on the nose i went to the track made 2 runs third run the pressure plate failed. had to pull tranny, missed the burnout comp that was the next day. and then i got a replacement, and now it has about 10 thousand miles on it but i dont think its working right. so i wouldnt be surprised if it doesnt hold up to my supercharger.

Thats true. I actually have a $125 clutch with my $4000 transmission, and its running grat. i think its kinda funny that i spent so much money on the tranny and so little on the clutch. However I do plan on going dual disc as soon as I finish my motor and put it in. (whenever thatll be)

Dude, That is one nice GT. Have you got to the "Aluminator" project yet. I have the same plans for my '02. I had just planned on buying the crate version. Is there money to be saved going your route?
