The input shaft should be different too. If I remember correctly that is the other main difference between the Viper/Cobra/Vette units aside from the bellhousing.

Would I be able to use to bell housing off my tr 3650 and input shaft or do I need one from a cobra?

the TR3650 does not have a removable bell housing

You need a bellhousing, possibly a clutch depending on what tranny you get (26 or 10 spline) driveshaft yoke, trans crossmember. The 3650 wiring harness will work, but you need to wire the reverse lockout yourself.

blown2001slowgt 04-22-2012 04:38 PM

Do you guys recommend I just put steel 1-2 and 3-4 forks instead cause that's what I keep breaking.... If so any links were to buy them? I can't find them anywhere. Or if you don't recommend that what trans do you recommend that is not too expensive

Bpohlman13 04-22-2012 07:42 PM

Whats your price range?

blown2001slowgt 04-22-2012 09:05 PM

1800-2000 I want to get a clutch is possible within that

blown2001slowgt 04-26-2012 05:20 PM

?????

oxfordgt 04-26-2012 06:30 PM

What power do you have?

Bpohlman13 04-26-2012 06:37 PM

A t56 is prolly out of your budget. If you can find a built 3650 in your price range, thats probably going to suit you better.

blown2001slowgt 05-01-2012 10:58 AM

i got my hands on a 03 cobra t56 trans with 50k miles on it for 1500... it comes with bell housing and a clutch.... all i will need is the cross member and to rewire the harness for the lock out? does anyone have a write up on how to do this? also is it true i need to change the yoke on the drive shaft?

Bpohlman13 05-01-2012 11:37 AM

You dont have to wire the lockout up. I didnt when I installed my t56. The only thing it will do is make it hard to push into reverse. You do need the yoke. The transmissions have a different amount of splines on the output.

blown2001slowgt 05-09-2012 11:02 AM

ok... aluminum drive shaft from 2003 cobra with 26 spline yoke just arrived today along with the crossmember..... the transmission should be here tomorrow along with the clutch and flywheel..... i would like to rewire the lockout since im doing all of this if possible.... any write ups on it?

Peep the sig, homie :D

... oops, I don't have it in this sig. Will have to find it and get back to you!

T-56 swap

Bman2000 05-11-2012 12:34 AM

ok i could be a little confused. first off, i am pretty sure the input shaft on the t-56 is 10 spline, im not sure what you keep breaking on the 3650s but the input shaft would be the weak point in the t-56 tranny. Second, im also pretty sure the output shaft on the tranny to the driveshaft is 31 spline? in either case when i did mine the factory splined gt shaft fits, i just had to have it shortened 1 inch since the t-56 is longer. Honestly i left the reverse lockout unwired, i like having to force it into reverse, means i dont have to worry one bit about somehow gettin it in there by accident.

Bpohlman13 05-11-2012 12:46 AM

some people upgrade to a 26spline input shaft. My output is 31 spline aswell. I plan on wiring the reverse lockout to a switch this weekend since my tranny is out right now from a bad throwout bearing. Thats one thing ive learned on these cars. Never ever put cheap parts on a car where they are hard to replace!

Bman2000 05-11-2012 11:56 PM

sadly buying good parts doesnt save you from premature failing...lol i bought a center force when i did my swap. 500 miles on the nose i went to the track made 2 runs third run the pressure plate failed. had to pull tranny, missed the burnout comp that was the next day. and then i got a replacement, and now it has about 10 thousand miles on it but i dont think its working right. so i wouldnt be surprised if it doesnt hold up to my supercharger.

Bpohlman13 05-12-2012 03:09 AM

Thats true. I actually have a $125 clutch with my $4000 transmission, and its running grat. i think its kinda funny that i spent so much money on the tranny and so little on the clutch. However I do plan on going dual disc as soon as I finish my motor and put it in. (whenever thatll be)

Dude, That is one nice GT. Have you got to the "Aluminator" project yet. I have the same plans for my '02. I had just planned on buying the crate version. Is there money to be saved going your route?
