After reading your posts in this thread I must say that is an inaccurate statement -- at least for you.

Ok guys, lets relax here. I've had 3 of the 4 choices on here and about to have the fourth. With stock gears, my car was getting like 25-26mpg on longer trips on the highway going 65-75mph. My car with 4.10's would get right around 24-25mpg at the same speeds typically. Now with the IRS in the car with 3.55's, I average around 25mpg at the same speeds. I got up to 28mpg going to VIR last summer though.

All in all OP, you need to look elsewhere than the gears to pick up MPG just because I know for a fact that you should not be getting that horrible of mileage with 4.10's. I never averaged less than 20mpg with the 4.10's unless I was not driving normally(not beating on it but driving it like it was meant to be driven). When I first got my car, with stock 3.27's, I was getting 15mpg doing mixed in-town and roads with a 45mph speed limit doing 52mph usually. I knew that was off. I changed my fuel filter and picked up 3mpg right off the bat. Since then, I've learned how to drive the car to squeeze more mileage out of it. In town, I will say going with stock gears will hinder gas mileage. The lower gears allow you to use less energy to get the vehicle moving. Also provides less wear and tear on the clutch as like I said, takes less energy to move the vehicle.

Overall, I would search for other fixes for increased gas mileage, such as changing the fuel filter, air filter, exhaust, etc as I know I loved the pull the 4.10's had. Also, you must have a t45 car because at 75mph I believe I was taching 2500rpm. With that said though, I'd go 3.73's. They pull pretty well(not as well as the 4.10's), but they will be a nice happy medium for you with a t45.

Well even if it wasn't ruined, my wallet was still broke and work was helping to fix that. Definitely hitting up the American muscle show in august though. We should get a group together and cruise to that mr vp of pa. Lol
